About this listen

Violet Zennor was raised fighting in underground arenas. Ruthless and skilled, she becomes an heiress after her father's death. But her freedom is short-lived. Her father planned to send her to the Darklands, where her stillborn brother was sold. Despite pressure, Violet refuses. After an assassination attempt, she realizes she must confront her father's legacy. Seeking help from Miren, Ellie, and Asher, she prepares for the ultimate journey: into the Darklands, to the Anchorhold. This gripping tale explores a sinister fantasy world where blood is power and magic is a weapon.

Another fabulous dark gothic fantasy

This is a proper thrill-ride of a novel, full of dark gothic fairytale invention. It manages to create a gripping story by matching a "seat-of-your-pants" plot to strong characterisation, a clear love of folklore, subtle fantasy world-building, and numerous literary chops that just leave you breathless. i must also be said that in the Crimson Road, (as with all her other novels i have read), the protagonist is female and so are many of the supporting cast. The book is a standalone story but it ties in with her other novels beautifully. I can't reccomend this book highly enough!

More than a vampire book.

A great fantasy quest twisted in with folk lore and creatures from the world of Slatter. It is brilliant that you can read these books out of sequence - this is a stand alone read but it ties in with the geography of Slatter's world.
