Summary
Read by the author, Tracy Whitwell.
The Accidental Medium is the first audiobook in a hilarious series from Tracy Whitwell featuring Tanz, the accidental medium who, with the help of the dead, is about to become an unwilling crime-solver.
Tanz is a wine-loving, straight-talking, once-successful TV actress from Gateshead, whose career has shrivelled like an antique walnut. She is still grieving for her friend Frank, who died in a car crash three years ago, and she has to find a normal job in London to fund her cocktail habit. When she starts work in a ‘new age’ shop, Tanz suddenly discovers that the voices she’s hearing in her head are real, not the first signs of madness, and that she can give people ‘messages’ from beyond the grave. Alarmed, she confronts her little mam and discovers she is from a long line of psychic mediums.
Despite an exciting new avenue of life opening up to Tanz, darkness isn’t far away and all too soon there’s murder in the air . . .

Great Fun
This is one of the freshest books I've read in ages. The story was just the right side of weird and conveyed a sense of the occult without spooking us out. It's really the kind of occult that drinks tea and biscuits rather than bat's blood.
And who would have thought that pairing detecting with palm reading would be such an interesting combination?
The characters were amusing and the plot a riot.
The narration was good from the author Tracy Whitwell which shouldn't be surprising as she's an actress. But it was a bit too shouty in places.

Totally entertaining!
I really liked this listen. Picked up on a 2 for 1 offer, just to see if I liked the writing. I will be looking out for the next in the series. I also like it when the author reads their own material and Tracy Whitwell made this interesting and fun.

Northern ‘lovey’ finds an unexpected vocation in the spiritual world.
A lovely escape into Tanz’s struggling actor’s life filled with humour, warmth and ghosts. Like a northern Brigit Jones meets Mystic Meg.

Such an enjoyable adventure with Tanz
I loved this book as soon as I started listening to it. It was like meeting up with my bestie and listening to her talk non stop for 7 hours, unable and unwilling to interrupt her because I was so caught up in her adventures. My role was simply to keep pouring the wine and provide copious amounts of hummus to keep her going. The author reading the book made it so true to life and I was captivated hearing about the psychic abilities of Tanz and what would happen next.
We all need a bit of escapism from the real world now and again and Tanz gave me just that by, providing warmth, making me laugh and inviting me into her mad but exciting world. Looking forward to listening to more from Tracy Whitwell, absolutely loved it!

Fabulously down to earth….
Which is and odd description about a book that’s about spirits! Love being taken on this ride of a story. Characters where believable and was disappointed when it ended.
Looking forward to hearing more adventures from this far from “medium” author.

If Sarah Millican was a medium ...
I'm glad I got the audiobook because the author's narration is thoroughly enjoyable. The subject matter, characters and plot all work well together for a compelling listen.
