About this listen

In the present, an old fisherman is found dead by the shoreline and a stranger with a mission moves into a shabby Kinloch flat.

Meanwhile, D.C.I. Jim Daley is trying to help Brian Scott stay sober, and the good people of Kinloch are still mourning the death of one of their own.

As past and present collide, Daley finds himself face to face with old friends and foes. Memories can only last as long as those who keep them, and ghosts will not be silenced.

Is it just me, stuck here in Campbeltown waiting for the next instalment of the goings on in Kinloch...thanks for another excellent book beautifully performed by David Monteath as usual.

WELL WORTH THE WAIT

This series just seems to get better and better, and I found the storyline gripping, but loved the bits of humour along the way. The narration as always was superb - and I can’t wait for the next one!

Brilliantly written and narrated

Love the characters, story telling and plot.
Great follow-on story from a wonderful series of books. DCI Daley and DS Scott come to life again.

Another great story

Excellent narration of an excellent crime series. This one didn’t disappoint with loose ends from earlier books given their back stories alongside another step forward for Daley and Scitt

Great series

I bought the audio version of this book and, as anticipated, the narration throughout is superb. Having read and listened to this series, I much prefer the audio version because it adds a whole different dimension to the story and characters.

I’ve waited eagerly every June for the next in the series and picked up the additional short stories. I’ve yet to be disappointed by the quality of the plotting and the development of the characters. Denzil Meyrick is one of a handful of authors who has maintained a series exceptionally well; no plot contrivances for convenience or formulaic writing. Every one is a winner.

There are echoes from book 9 in which one of the recurring characters died. Although this works well as a stand alone, it’s a series which really does work best if read in order. I’ve grown to love the central characters. Jim Daley and His DS, Scott. Both have demons. But they’re not held down by the baggage and they’re distinctly different characters. They play off one another, with Scott’s gruff and dark humour along with malapropisms making him feel real. I have mental pictures of every character and the location.

This tale is a real mix of people from the past, themes from earlier stories and both Daley and Scott trying to rebalance and move on with their lives. Their respective wives are central to the character development and unusually, the personal side of the tale doesn’t detract from the crime story. I feel a part of this strange little Kinloch community; it takes a talented writer to create a seemingly real world for readers to invest in. Meyrick has done it. This is a cracking addition to the series and won’t disappoint.

Shadows from the past and murder in the present

I can’t wait for these books to come out. As usual the narration is just brilliant. Brings the characters to life. Really enjoyed the story but a few things just grated slightly. The constant booze wrecks lives narrative, the increasing level of violence and the lack of any resolution regarding what to do with Liz. Still enjoyed it though and look forward to the next slice of Kinloch.

Love these books and characters

Great to DCI Daley and Co back for another adventure. I enjoyed the story and David Monteath’s narration was masterful. My only gripe is that I found the audio quality slightly distorted. Not so noticeable on speakers but certainly on headphones. It didn’t stop me listening to it all and savouring every minute! I’m looking forward to the next.

Another Great Story

As always, Denzil Meyrick delivers the goods. A brilliantly written and narrated story featuring all your favourite characters. As usual a mixture of laughter, tears and thrills. David Monteath is an absolutely fantastic narrator.
Hope we don't have to wait to long for the next episode of this brilliant series.
