About this listen

Discover a new series of murder mysteries set in an idyllic English village from million-selling author Faith Martin.

Meet Monica Noble: the vicar’s wife with a taste for solving crimes.

Please note this book was first published as Unholy Whiff of Death under Faith Martin’s pen name Joyce Cato.

Smell the roses and die!

Monica Noble is thrilled to be asked to judge a neighboring village’s flower show, even if she can't tell a begonia from an azalea!

Her fellow judge Vicar James Davies inhales deeply from a large bloom and drops dead in the tent. At first everyone thinks he’s had a heart attack, but the doctor on hand is suspicious and calls in the police.

A second murder quickly follows, this time of one of the main suspects.

Monica must help Chief Inspector Jason Dury to solve the two murders and find the killer—fast, before anyone else pays the ultimate price.

This is the second of a series of enjoyable murder mysteries with great characters and baffling crimes which will keep you gripped till the final minute.

Perfect for fans of classic whodunits by authors like Agatha Christie, LJ Ross, TE Kinsey, and J.R. Ellis.

A good enough evening read/listen in a nice setting. It was recommended in comparison with Agatha Christie, but the characters and the story do not by far have the same depth and cleverness. I managed to to guess the culrpit fairly soon and the handsome and intelligent chief inspector certainly would have worked it out too, espcially when logically following standard procedure. So I found it a bit unrealistic, but still entertaining and pleasant enough to listen to.

Entertaining - but not on a par with A. Christie

Just about to buy the third book as the first two were fantastic!!! Like a modern day Christie- my absolute favourite! 👍

Looked for this book after listening to the first book some time ago. Enjoyed the book and the twists along the way, Nothing too gruesome or violent. Definitely listen to the next book, especially if it's by the same narrator.

Enjoyed this audio book.

I enjoyed this book - Faith Martin provides a good yarn; however, there were a couple of things that irritated me - one of which was the pronunciation of ‘SOCO’! It’s not soak-oa; it’s sock-oa!!! Please!!!

Intriguing story
