About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The chilling new novel from Norwegian superstar Jørn Lier Horst. This is Nordic Noir at its spine-tingling best.

After four years behind bars, notorious serial killer Thomas Kerr is ready to talk.

And Chief Inspector William Wisting has been waiting to listen.

Kerr has finally agreed to lead the police to his final victim's grave. But the expedition goes horribly wrong after his escape deep into the Norwegian forest.

Wisting must launch a frantic search to find this cold-blooded killer before he strikes again.

But the body of another woman, killed weeks before, has been found. Murdered in the same way as Kerr's victims.

Is there a copycat killer on the loose?

And what will happen once Kerr and his apprentice are reunited?

As the clock counts down to the next murder, Wisting must put everything on the line to stop a terrifying evil which threatens to engulf his city.

Critic reviews

"Jørn Lier Horst writes some of the best Scandinavian crime fiction.... His books are superbly plotted and addictive, the characters wonderfully realised." (Yrsa Sigurdardóttir)

Really enjoying the series … looking for a Jo Nesbo type read… feel like I know Oslo pretty well now.

Good read.

Enjoyed this story of the Norwegian detective and his journalist daughter.
The story is harrowing in the detail. Howcome Norway is said to be a brilliant place to live!?😂🥲The usual good writing. The reader is a little monotonous, but not too bad.

Excellent storyline.

He’s a good reader but so totally unsuited to Wisting. The story was utterly spoiled for me. I’ve bought the fourth book but don’t think I can listen to it. So disappointing.

Narrator not suitable

Content disturbing at times :but well delivered. Different narrator from previous books in the series which spoilt the listen slightly. That said , would thoroughly recommend.

Well worth a listen

This book has excellent reviews but for some reason it was not for me. I found that it did not hold my attention at all. Dissapointed.

Dispite the good ratings, sadly not for me.

The narrator made many characters sound feeble or thick or both . Playing the characters like simpletons or perhaps as if they’re characters in a spoof 1920’s or 1930’s movie .

Continued excellent characters

It was a very difficult read because of the very graphic violence on women. The darkest one of all until now. Many parts left me with stirring feeling and upset me

Violent

Just an average story, not bad but not particularly good either. The narrator did not add to my enjoyment unfortunately.

Not the best

All right, but far from compelling. Not a “page turner “ by any stretch of the imagination

Adequate

No as good as the previous books in the series. The translation is strange, very laboured English.
The narration is annoying
Don't go there
