About this listen

***THE WORLD FANTASY AWARD WINNER***

One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess searching for her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire.

Imprisoned by her dictator brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of powerful magic—but is now little more than a decaying ruin.

Priya is a maidservant, one of several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the Hirana every night to attend Malini's chambers. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, as long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides. But when Malini accidentally bears witness to Priya's true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled....

The Jasmine Throne begins an epic fantasy trilogy set in a world inspired by the history and romances of India, in which a captive princess and a maidservant in possession of forbidden magic become unlikely allies. The sapphic romance and Booktok sensation!

Loved the story, very well written. The narration was well performed but I couldn’t get into the dialogue. Firstly too many characters, including main ones, had American accents - this makes no sense. I also found the dialogue performance to be a little melodramatic - however, had the accents been more accurate this may not have been a problem. Overall worth a read/listen but if you’re picky on believability of performance, you might struggle.

Amazing story but put off by the American accents

I am not easily impressed when it comes to books but this is one of those rare ones that comes along and leaves you in awe of the person who managed to write it. Excellent, excellent study of the mastery of all the creative writing necessities. And then some.

Epic RF Kung-level world building

Beautiful story and strong characters. Not as much romance as I hoped but still a great read. looking forward to next book

great story

interesting world and characters, plot was good but suffered a tiny bit from unsure pacing. one second it is a slow burn romance between an imprisoned princess and her handmaiden and their slow escape from their respective prisons, one metaphorical the other quite literal. Then the next it's a fast paced magical political thriller about several different people and their goals to overthrow the empire. ending was quite a whiplash because of this which kind of soured a overall pretty good book.

pretty good
