About this listen

How do you solve a murder when everyone's a suspect?

Tormented by the recent loss of a colleague, DCI Jack Logan is on the warpath, determined to bring down all those he holds responsible for the officer's death.

His quest for revenge is cut short when a woman's body turns up on the remote island of Canna, and Jack is summoned to investigate. As a storm closes in, Jack finds himself cut-off from the rest of the world, with no car, no phone signal, and only DC Neish for company.

With time running out before the ferries resume, Jack must act fast to crack the case before the killer can escape. But with the victim widely hated on the island, everyone on it is a potential suspect.

Even the scarecrow....

The Last Bloody Straw is the fifth book in the DCI Jack Logan series, set in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Chris Brookmyre, and Stuart Macbride.

This is the5th book in a series and I definitely think it needs to be read in order.

This story is set on a Scottish Island with a population of less than 50 people.

The characters and interactions carry on from previous books ànd I actually laughed out loud at a few points in the story.

Worth a credit.

Good series

Angus King made this book with once again giving a faultless 5 star performance as do all his narrations..unsung hero in audible in my opinion

I love these books. As detective stories they are good, but what makes them so enjoyable is the fantastic, authentic dialogue, the banter, between the characters. I am constantly laughing out loud and appreciate that scottish mirth and witt as I become more and more enchanted with the endearing set of characters. Very accurately reflects the unique Scottish sense of humour I experienced living in Glasgow and captures a human warmth whilst not shirking from tough circumstances and issues. Where else would you find the star of one chapter being the "tattie scone" ....a great Scottish delicacy. These books are fun.

Another great yarn brilliantly read

I do love Jack Logan and his banter with Tyler, makes me laugh. This mystery was exceptional totally real. I cannot wait for the next one, hope we don’t have to wait too long. The Narrator Angus King bring the story to life brilliantly. J D Kirk one of my fav authors.

Brilliant

As usual JD Kirk never fails to write a good crime thriller full of surprises and brilliant humour.

A crackin' good book and audiobook

If you like the series you will enjoy another adventure. A bit slow to start until the mystery of the crime begins to pick up pace. Still funny and tragic. A bit more of Logan's personal life comes out and a few twists at the end.

Slow to start

Another belter

Read most of these books about Logan and colleagues’ comings and goings but way too much swearing! Angus was fantastic doing the narration, especially I liked his use of truly Scottish words and expressions (many I use myself). The plot line wasn’t as good as previous reads but would I read other books? Absolutely, just gie us a break from the eff word guys.

Too sweary

Tyler Nish is growing in confidence with the big man. Great story. Missing McQuarry though.

So good
