About this listen

The gateway between past and present has opened, and evil forces of enormous power are unleashed. To close the gateway, the Sword of God must be found, and all that is known is that it shines in the clouds above the City of Beasts - a city ruled by the Dark Queen.

Only one man can stand at the gateway of time - Jon Shannow, the Last Guardian. The hunters from his past who seek his death are but the first obstacle. For what Shannow doesn't know is that his actions could warp time itself - and herald the doom of worlds.

Great story but I found the accents the narrator took for the characters to be at best odd at worst offensive. I don’t understand why people from the same area and sometimes same family would have wildly different accents. The worst though were the people of colour where they become particularly offensive. The ethnically black characters sound like they are something from a mix between a caricature of an African and minstrel accent. The ethnically Asian character also has one from what would be a mockery accent from the 1960’s. It made no sense within the plot either as these characters were from the most advanced society in the book and you would assume they therefore spoke similar to each other. I normally enjoy Christian’s narration but this was not good.

Troubling narration

struggled to finish due to narrators attempt to do every accent he could think of, from Scouser to African/Jamaicans, really bad Yorkshire man, Irish, Welsh a pantomime Foo man choo esque Chinese to a cheeky cockney!

great book rubbished by narrators crappy accents.

I love David Gemmell... his stories are unique, interesting and you are transported from page 1. The narrator is excellent and if you are a fan of Gemmell just go for it.

Always entertaining
