About this listen
DS Whitney Walker wants a promotion, but it’s hard when she’s trying to balance motherhood with a career.
When a newborn baby is kidnapped from the local hospital, she draws on her skills as a mother to help. Despite being ordered not to, and when the leads are going nowhere, Walker enlists the help of a local journalist who’s convinced it’s the work of an international baby smuggling ring. Walker’s plan backfires and she fears they’re running out of time.

Very good story
The narrator was excellent (maybe not the mens voices) but it didn’t distract.
Some books last 14 hours and I find I can’t remember most of the plot. So I found this novella refreshing and would definitely listen to Sally Rigby again.

nothing original
it was confusing for me at first as I had already read a couple of Cavendish &Walker books. it should have been mentioned in the preface that this was prequel to DI walker's life as a seasoned detective

A taster
A very enjoyable taste of a series to come. Likeable lead characters, and believable plot.

Predictable
I did enjoy this book, it was fairly predictable, the narrator’s attempt at regional accents are dire

An interesting prequel novella
I have read some of the Cavendish and Walker books so I was intrigued by how this would play out. The story focuses on DS Whitney Walker as she is put in charge of a case to find an abducted baby. Being a short book there are no twists or surprises really, just a straight up police procedural. We do get to see a younger Walker though as she returns from Bereavement leave following the death of her father and gets into the nitty gritty of tracking down who has taken the baby. We are introduced to other characters that influence her and discover that her blunt manner and lack of control over her mouth are clearly long-standing character traits.
I am now motivated to re-read the early books in the main series.

Should have read the blurb!
Wasted a credit on a short story which frankly was dull and uneventful. The narrator was OK, although the pronunciation of was as WUZ was very annoying and off putting.

Short Novella
I Have actually read most of the Whitney & Cavendish novel but I missed this one so as it's included in my subscription I downloaded it and listened in one sitting. Short and to the point I'm sure this has happened before in real life but in this novella, Whitney is only a Detective Sargent, and before they became Cavendish & Walker. The narration was a very good and clear voice.
