About this listen

In the early hours of March 2015, the police receive a call from a nurse at a provincial Danish hospital. She suspects her colleague is deliberately killing patients and fears that it has just happened again.

Soon, several witnesses reveal that they too suspect the same nurse of poisoning patients; some have been harbouring their suspicion for years... so why has no one done anything about it before? And now that those patients’ bodies have long been cremated, where is the evidence?

To this day, the nurse, Christina Aistrup Hansen, maintains her innocence. Is this an example of small-town gossip snowballing out of control, or a sinister case of serial sociopathic harm?

In this award-winning, best-selling account, Danish journalist Kristian Corfixen reconstructs the fateful night shift in 2015 when three patients die under mysterious circumstances, setting in motion one of Denmark’s most sensational criminal trials.

With thorough research and extensive source material – including medical records, autopsy reports, text and email correspondence, and police reports – Corfixen tells the true story of the events. The book includes testimonies from key players in the case, including the convicted nurse, Hansen, and the key witness, both of whom are speaking publicly about the case for the first time.

A compelling and deeply disturbing case that will thrill true crime fans, and those hooked on Netflix’s The Good Nurse starring Eddie Redmayne.

Kristian Corfixen is a Danish journalist. The Nurse (Sygeplejersken 2019), won critical acclaim and several awards while also raising debate about the rigorous vetting of caretakers, and the role of indicative evidence in criminal courts.

Having been a nurse I know that she is truly GUILTY!💯 I feel so sorry for her parents and especially for pernille😞 i can only imagine how hard it is for her with other nurses being nasty to her. Nurses can be bitches. Christina should get LIFE and it mean life!! She is EVIL, no doubt about it. This isn’t normal what all happened on her shifts. She has so many signs of lots of mental problems. She should never be allowed to have her daughter on her own ever again either. She is 100% a MURDERER! Thank god she doesn’t want to ever do nursing again!!! 🙏🏽 She thinks she was superwoman on the ward and there are lots like her. There should be way more checks before allowed to get into nursing, its way too easy. It was NOT gossip, it was way more than that for SURE!! Christina would be better a prostitute than working in a hospital!! She should consider that line of work as this time she will get paid instead of working for free🤔 she sounds evil and vile!!💯💯💯 brilliant book, brilliant narration! Thank you all involved. Highly recommend!💯💯💯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️xx

Absolutely brilliant!💯👏🏽 narration OUTSTANDING 👏🏽👏🏽

Listened to after watching Netflix series. A bit slow but quite interesting. Quite short though

Good

Or you could end up in a hospital and if you get killed by a crazy nurse not much will happen. The killer in this book is one of the most narcissistic killers I have ever heard about and its unbelievable to realise she will be released soon and able to utter the nonsense she is innocent as a free person.

Where I a Dane, I would feel so ashamed about how the legal system works in Denmark and even more how the healthcare system reacts to a killing nurse. Glad I am not a Dane, won't go there after listening to this..

Good story though

Don't go to Denmark!

This is a well researched and well written account of the murder of patients carried out by Christina Airstrup Hansen, a nurse at a provincial Danish hospital. She murdered or tried to murder patients who were under her care. Having closely followed the case of Lucy Letby (the British nurse who killed at least seven premature babies in the neonatal unit of a Chester hospital) I was interested in how similar they were although the Danish nurse did not kill babies. Their behaviour was very similar, however, in portraying a very efficient and caring nurse who apparently always remained very calm and in control when their patients became seriously unwell and needed resuscitation. They were both admired for their nursing skills whilst all the while killing their patients. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in True Crime.

Chilling

All aspects of the story and subsequent court case were covered. I felt the writer was impartial. Fantastic journalism

Very detailed

Very well read, great narration. Just the right amount of detail to a very interesting and horrific crime, well worth listening to.

This is a great story and a gripping audio book. I didn't know what happened, so avoided looking into the case, and just listened through. The similarities with the Lucy Letby case (another fascinating subject) are obvious. I won't spoil it, but listen to it and make your own mind up as you go along, assuming you are not familiar with the case!

Great story

Despite all the brilliant crime fiction coming out of Denmark and Scandinavia as a whole, I’m guilty of thinking of these countries as being very peaceful and non-dramatic in real life. This story put those assumptions to shame though. This true story of a nurse who may or may not have killed her patients, sent shockwaves through Denmark and I can see why. It’s truly terrifying to think that your family members could be at risk in the place where they should feel the safest.

The author’s research seems super thorough and as a reader you really feel part of the investigation – the perfect true crime vibe.

The narrator does an excellent job of bringing the story to life. Would highly recommend to anyone who like Scandi Noir and the true crime genre!

Fascinating in-depth Scandi true crime
