About this listen

Ellie Blake is recovering from a nervous breakdown. Deciding to move back to her northern roots, she and her psychiatrist husband buy Tanners Dell at auction - an old water mill in the moorland village of Bridesmoor. However, there is disquiet in the village. Tanners Dell has a terrible secret, one so well guarded no one speaks its name. But in her search for meaning, Ellie is drawn to traditional witchcraft and determined to pursue it.

All her life she has been cowed. All her life she has apologized for her very existence. And witchcraft has opened a door she could never have imagined. Imbued with power and overawed with its magic, for the first time she feels she has come home, truly knows who she is. Tanners Dell, though, with its centuries-old demonic history...well, it's a dangerous place for a novice.

these stories are well written and well narrated. looking forward to the next one.

brilliant

I enjoyed the story but the way the main character was portrayed made her sound really weak rather than someone who you wanted to champion. The Irish accent for one character was odd. The portrayal of the male voice was well done. I think that if the narrator only had to do one accent she would have come across well.

Story was good but narration was not the best.

Liked the plot , this is one of the better horror stories I have heard in awhile.

Great story

Fantastic carry on from Father of Lies trilogy, the story finally gives the listener the closure they wanted for the characters.

Gripping

The end felt a bit rushed. I was expecting more development on all the characters at the end, to make more sense to the overall story. It was difficult to get into it at the begining as the narration was too fast, like mechanical.

Scary at times

this is the first book I've listened to by this Author, it was good. but I couldn't say it was gripping. it was an easy listen.

Loved the whole lot. The book could have warranted a bit more of an ending but great nonetheless

Very immersive listening

the lady narrator is very good but her mimicking of the male voice is not a strong point

Good Story

enjoyed the story and the narrator is really good, her voice and pace adds to suspense. the story of the book flows quite rapidly so you do need to pay attention as the character changes can change from chapter to chapter so if you zone out even for a couple of minutes can jolt to reality as your not sure who is talking and what did you miss. but an enjoyable listen and enough for me to download the authors other books

you have to pay attention

I enjoyed the story, it was a very easy plot with no big surprises. I often listen whilst working so an easy to follow plot from time to time is welcome however the narration…. Unfortunately this narrator was not for me. Very monotone with no real light and shade to the narration. Accents clearly not her strong point either. Don’t get me wrong my Welsh accent is awful but I’m not a narrator! I so nearly gave up several times but glad I persevered. Left wide open for a series but I can’t help but feel I would have enjoyed it more from a different narrator. Hey, we’re all different! Worth a listen though

Good story but nearly gave up several times!
