About this listen
Harry Hole, drunkard, loner and brilliant detective is reassigned to surveillance after a high profile mistake. He’s bored by his new job until a report of a rare and unusual gun being fired sparks his interest because of its possible links to Neo Nazi activity. Then a former soldier is found with his throat cut. Next Harry’s former partner is murdered. Why had she been trying to reach Harry on the night her head was smashed in? The investigation leads Harry to suspect that the crimes have their roots in the battlefields of Eastern Front during WWII. In a quest that takes him to South Africa and Vienna, Harry finds himself perpetually one step behind the killer. He will be both winner and loser by the novel's nail-biting conclusion.
The Redbreast. He’s your judge, jury and executioner…And he must be stopped.

Harry Hole is an enigmatic character and I don't know if I like him or not but he is well drawn and the listener is drawn into how he thinks and why things eventually fall into place. The reflections back to time on the Eastern Front on the German side are interesting and annoying as it is not clear who every one is but this is all part of how the book ends. Away from the main plot the many asides and sub plots lead the listener to fall into the holes left for Harry Hole and to be rescued from them by our detective and his allies. Overall a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable listen for those who like detective novels.

What made the experience of listening to The Redbreast: A Harry Hole Thriller, Book 3 the most enjoyable?
Some of the characters are becoming like an old friend now. What did you like best about this story?
The mix of present day and past linking people togetherWhat did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance was ok I did however struggle with some of the Norwegian accent in places, But that is probably more down to my particular hearing problems than the NarrationWas this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes mainly because of the different time frames in the storylineAny additional comments?
I am warming to Jo Nesbo as a big Larsson fan thought this would be too similar. However the character pops up in lots of different guises/locations which is funStill keep trying this one
