Summary
Now a major motion picture, Infinite, starring Mark Wahlberg.
Haunted by memories of two past lives, a troubled young man stumbles upon a centuries-old secret society of similar individuals and dares to join their ranks. Discovered in an antique store in Rome at the turn of the millennium, The Reincarnationist Papers offers a tantalising glimpse into the Cognomina, a secret society of people who possess total recall of their past lives.
Evan Michaels struggles with being different, with having the complete memories of two other people who lived sequentially before him. He fights loneliness and believes his ‘condition’ is unique, until he meets Poppy. She recognises his struggle because she has the same ‘condition’, except that she is much older, remembering back seven consecutive lives. But there is something else she must share with Evan - she is a member of a secret society of others like them. They are, in effect, near immortals - compiling experiences and skills over lifetimes into near superhuman abilities that they have used to drive history toward their own agenda on a longer timeline. Through Poppy, Evan is invited into the Cognomina, but he must decide if he can face their tests before entering this new mysterious society as their equal.
Critic reviews
"For fans of The Matrix and Memento, a twisty, exciting adventure!" (Diana Gabaldon, number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Outlander series)
"The high stakes and clever premise of Maikranz’s thrilling debut successfully evoke a sense of wide-eyed awe." (Publishers Weekly)

Brilliant
Great story, nothing to do with the infinite film but really gripping, hoping for more!

Stick with it....
It took me a 'long' time to get into this book & having watched the film I'd expected it to be a little more pacey but stuck with it I did & in the end I enjoyed this book. Unusual, interesting & completitative.

Excellent
Thoroughly engaging listen.
Looked for this book having watched & enjoyed the film Infinite. Very little connection but I enjoyed the book more. If I’m honest, I didn’t want it to finish. This is a story that could be expanded with many other stories. Particularly enjoyed the recount of ‘other lives’.
I hope the author continues, turning this into a series.

Great Concept and character driven story.
If you enjoy the concept of reincarnation and an individuals discovery of his own previous lives, you will enjoy this book. It seems like it will make a good series. lots of potential for more stories in this world.
Also worth noting the Narrator (Michael David Axtell) did a fantastic job. Easily one of the best Narrators I've heard. And I have listened to hundreds of audio books!

Read this but don’t watch the film
I wanted more of the film so bought this, how wrong I was, the film doesn’t hold a candle to this book, I enjoyed it so much that I listened to it again a week later, it was so different that to say that the film was based on it is misleading.

A bit of a waste of a great concept
Promising start, I was even looking for details of Infinite, the film based upon the book. But but ended in a hugely anticlimactic fashion to the point that I searched to see if this was book one of a series. Sadly not and with its release in 2009 it appears unlikely that any follow up will be coming.
The problem I have is that although the story relates to reincarnation, the main characters thread mainly centers on his current encarnation rather than 2 or 3 or several. The subcharacters go some way to addressing this but it felt like it was padding on a plot climax that was not only inevitable but suggested some few chapters before the end.
Having read a few reincarnation/looping life/time travel books this one sadly just doesn't cut it. If you're looking for a deeper, more complex plot go for The First 15 Lives of Harry August.
