Summary

‘A delicious adventure’ – Daily MailMurder on the Riviera Express

Gerald Hennessey – silver screen star and much-loved heart-throb – never quite makes it to Temple Regis, the quaint Devonshire seaside town on the English Riviera. Murdered on the 4.30 from Paddington, the loss of this great man throws Temple Regis’ community into disarray.

Not least Miss Judy Dimont –corkscrew-haired reporter for the local rag, The Riviera Express. Investigating Gerald’s death, she’s soon called to the scene of a second murder, and, setting off on her trusty moped, Herbert, finds Arthur Shrimsley in an apparent suicide on the clifftops above the town beach.

Miss Dimont must prevail – for why was a man like Gerald coming to Temple Regis anyway? What is the connection between him and Arthur? And just how will she get any answers whilst under the watchful and mocking eyes of her infamously cantankerous Editor, Rudyard Rhys?

‘This is a fabulously satisfying addition to the canon of vintage crime. No wonder the author has already been signed up to produce more adventures starring the indefatigable Miss Dimont.’ Daily Express

‘Unashamedly cosy, with gentle humour and a pleasingly eccentric amateur sleuth, this solid old-fashioned whodunit is the first in what promises to be an entertaining series.’ The Guardian

‘Highly amusing’ Evening Standard

‘TP Fielden is a fabulous new voice and his dignified, clever heroine is a compelling new character. This delicious adventure is the first of a series and I can’t wait for the next one.’ Wendy Holden, Daily Mail

Must have. A golden age mystery.’ Sunday Express

‘Tremendous fun’ The Independent

Slow start got better

Any 3 star book I normally give up on. Not a bad book but slow to get going and not a patch on the detective books written by the likes of Peter May, Peter James, Felix Francis etc.

A delightful book

I absolutely loved this book! I think it is beautifully written, the characters are well drawn, 1950's Devon sounds delightful. The narration is brilliant, really brought it to life. It doesn't move fast but kept my interest from the start, I have already brought the next audiobook! Also loved the use of many Agatha Christe-esque surnames!! Would definitely recommend, in fact I already have...

gentle listen.

Alow paced murder mystery, not hugely convincing but peasant enough if you're fed up with unnecessary gore

Really good but the start Isn’t the best

Really improves as you get into this book and the reporter improves with each book
Very atmospheric not sure where it’s meant to be as use to live in on the English Rivera but it’s a made up place.
You won’t guess who did it
Enjoy

It's got everything!

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. I've read the print version, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Eve Karpf really brings the book to life. Eve is a marvellous reader, her voice is exactly right for these books. I shall look forward to adding the whole series to my library.

Slow and repetitive

This was a book I endured, rather than enjoyed. I had to force myself to get to the end, because I really didn’t care who the murderer was...... The first time the narrator told me that so&so’s performance was just like her part in a named play, it was quite clever. On the 20th time, it was just dull. The performance was good though, but the narrator was let down by the story.
