About this listen

When the mutilated body of a young woman is discovered in the Santa Monica Mountains, LAPD Detective Jessica Allen knows she's seen this MO before - two and a half years ago on the other side of the country.

A sadistic serial killer has been operating undetected for a decade, preying on lone female drivers who have broken down. The press dub the killer the Samaritan, but with no leads and a killer who leaves no traces, the police investigation quickly grinds to a halt.

That's when Carter Blake shows up to volunteer his services. He's a skilled manhunter with an uncanny ability to predict the Samaritan's next moves. At first Allen and her colleagues are suspicious. After all their new ally shares some uncomfortable similarities with the man they're tracking. But as the Samaritan takes his slaughter to the next level, Blake must find a way to stop him - even if it means bringing his own past crashing down on top of him.

Gripping, Mason Cross delivers another page turner

Would you consider the audio edition of The Samaritan to be better than the print version?

I have only listened to the audio version. It's first class, a great story and well told.

What other book might you compare The Samaritan to, and why?

For pace and story line on the main character, it sits well with the Carter Blake series. Not one of these books fails to deliver.

What does Eric Meyers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

In reading we lend the characters our voice, we imagine how they speak, speed, delivery etc. This experience tells us a story, invites us in and we are swept up in the telling of it, at the narrator's pace.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely. It is compelling listening.

Any additional comments?

Mason Cross consistently delivers excellent stand alone tales while weaving the more intricate back stories of the main character.
