About this listen

Step back into the magical world of Pendleford with The Secrets of Ghosts. Don’t miss the magical, heartwarming story from the best-selling author of The Language of Spells!

On her 21st birthday Katie Harper has only one wish: to become a real Harper woman. Mystical powers are passed down her family generation after generation - some even call them witches - yet every spell Katie attempts goes disastrously wrong.

When her magic does appear, it’s in a form nobody expected, and suddenly Katie is thrown into a dangerous new world with shadowy consequences. For the realm of the deceased is not as peaceful as she once thought. The dead are buried with their secrets, and only Katie can help the ghosts of the past finally find peace.

If that is what they are looking for....

Actual rating = 3.5. Enjoyable but quite simplistic and predictable story line. Essentially an enjoyable, if lacking in depth.

I have loved these books, unfortunately I read them in the wrong order so only critical word would be in the write up it could be advised of the order of listening. I found out on the website too late! but still enjoyed them, I'm now going home listen to Sarah's other books, just the right mix of good characters, magic and story to keep you wanting to listen. characters are easy to like, story lines simple but pleasant. an easy listen. I would recommend if your interested in anything slightly witchy or supernatural/ spiritual. 👌

Great listen

Good narration and character development that continues from Gwens initial story. Loved following the adventures of the next generation of Harper women. Great listen

Love following the tales of this magical family

I was really looking forward to this book, but was disappointed.
The narrator was a poor choice in my opinion, for 2 reasons: she sounded middle-aged and the main character is a 21 year old young woman; and her delivery was stilted and more like someone reading in a school assembly than narrating a story. There was little differentiation between characters and little of the direct speech actually sounded like people speaking naturally.
The story was fine, definitely less engaging than the first book but perhaps I would have felt differently if I had enjoyed the performance. As it was, I kept zoning out.
I’ll likely be buying more Sarah Painter books, but not with this narrator.

Wrong narrator, decent story
