Introducing Richard Armitage, our star narrator

Richard is well-known for his array of film, television and theatre work, including The Hobbit, Spooks and The Crucible. His trademark baritone voice has earned him recognition, too, through his performance on many notable audiobooks as well as in TV and radio show narration. This experience shines through in Armitage's gripping performance of the Jackman and Evans series where he plays host to a plethora of characters.

And Joy Ellis, the book's author

Joy Ellis started her career as a flower seller in Mayfair in the 1960s, before going on to open her own florist in Surrey. When the recession hit, Joy had a career change and became a bookseller, and attended a writing course in Greece where she was mentored by Sue Townsend. She now lives in the Fens with her partner Jacqueline, where the flatlands and marshes provide inspiration for her eerie plotlines.

Summary

From number-one best-selling author Joy Ellis, a totally absorbing mystery full of stunning twists and turns. Discover the author everyone’s talking about.

A mystery which will captivate you till the stunning ending.

A crime wave has hit town. The target is a highly sought-after brand of streetwear called Hybird X, clothing that costs a fortune and resells for unbelievable prices. Houses are burgled, kids mugged on the streets...and finally a young man dies, all for the sake of his shoes.

Then another boy’s body is found in a pile of rubbish. Meanwhile illegal steroids are flooding the streets. And there are dark movements on the marshes.

Clothes that people will kill to own.

A shadowy figure called Darke and his teams of young criminals seem to be behind it all.

Detectives Jackman and Evans must take on a fiendish criminal, while still haunted by Alistair Ashcroft, the serial killer they never caught.

Who is Darke and what does he really want?

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will grip you until the shocking ending. Set in the atmospheric Lincolnshire Fens whose towns and isolated villages hide many dark secrets.

Perfect for fans of Rachel Abbott, Sarah A. Denzil, Robert Bryndza, Mel Sherratt, Angela Marsons, Colin Dexter and Ruth Rendell.

The detectives.

DI Jackman leads the investigation. He is extremely smart and has a knack for bringing out the best in his diverse team. DS Marie Evans is haunted by the loss of her husband in a motorbike accident. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and colleagues.

Great story but bleak

Very much in the same vein as the previous Jackman books. This is gripping stuff but it is also bleak. There is little pleasant about it.
The concealment of the main crime is an interesting technique but it did feel like not all the strings had been drawn together as a result.
Well read as always by Richard Armitage

This is very good

I have raced through this series like like a DS on a fast bike. I don't think there has been any drop off in quality.

Very exciting

My heart was in my mouth for most of this story. It was performed brilliantly as always by the astonishing Richard Armitage, who brought the whole thing to life in all its glory and terror! I love the characters Joy Ellis produces and the way they behave in extremely believable fashion. Well done for all parties- bring on the next one soon please!

A strange but good one

This was a bit unusual and the stories a bit more far fetched than in the prior books. Still it gave more insight in the characters and gave them a bit time to calm down from the mayhem they had lived through in the previous story. Even the villains were more likeable. The finale was even more surprising as the pace picked up to an outcome not so easily foreseen and they were a lot of red herrings as should be in a good series. And most important it makes the anticipation for the next book even bigger as for sure that will have to be back at the tremendous pace and suspense of the previous books. Can’t wait ! The only downside is the narrator he so cleverly manages to bringe the different characters alive and even manages to keep them very much the same in the different books but that spoils many other books I since listened to where some narrators just are too monotone and boring in comparison.
