About this listen

Soon to be an ITV drama starring Aidan Turner.

Joseph O'Loughlin appears to have the perfect life—a beautiful wife, a loving daughter and a successful career as a clinical psychologist. But nothing can be taken for granted. Even the most flawless existence is only a loose thread away from unravelling. All it takes is a murdered girl, a troubled young patient and the biggest lie of his life. Caught in a complex web of deceit and haunted by images of the slain girl, he embarks upon a search that will take him from London to Liverpool and into the darkest recesses of the human mind....

Characters were compelling, narration was first class and story had me hooked until the last twist in the tale. Wonderful. More please Mr Rowbotham!

I learnt a lot about psychology and relentless revenge.
The fact that people are capable of committing such drastic things due to past experiences, is sadly part of some human nature . I thought the story was good/ solid and interesting. I so wanted the “baddie”to get their “come-comupance!!”🧐😲🥹🫢
I got very caught up in listening to this novel and would highly recommend it.
Job well done 👏

Had me gripped. Listened to it in a couple of days. Robert Glenister is a great narrator.

Gripping storyline

An engrossing listen. Colourful and believable characters engaged in a storyline which keeps the listener fully involved. The main protagonist’s character developed sympathetically, roundly and cleverly, with a twist when found to be simultaneously dealing with a Parkinson’s diagnosis whilst being drawn into a web of lies and deceit.

Great storytelling. A great narration 👏🏻👏🏻

The television series prompted me to read this novel after the first episode. I much preferred the novel. There are subtle differences in the characters in the novel which make the plot more believable I

Great novel

Well, this wasn't what I'd expected. The story started out so steadily, very straightforward, and then suddenly ... whoosh! It kept me thinking and trying to puzzle out what was going on all the way through, but as I started to think that I'd sorted out all of the twists and turns, there was yet another addition to the story (all additions were highly relevant).
Towards the end I was confident that I'd got it all sorted, when yet another spanner was thrown into the works.
I'm happy to report that all of the pieces finally slotted nicely into place and left me feeling totally satisfied.
I never reveal the storyline of any of the books I read when writing a review, there will be plenty of others who do., I simply tell people whether I would recommend a book or not. This looks like it could be the start of a series and I'm looking forward to reading the next ones.
I totally recommend this book. The rest is up to you. Try it - you might like it as much as I have done.

This got me thinking...
