About this listen

She’s a romantic at heart, living in the most unromantic of worlds....

Nicknamed Sweet Abelli for her docile nature, Elena smiles on cue and has a charming response for everything. She’s the favored daughter, the perfect mafia principessa...or was. Now, all she can see in the mirror’s reflection is blood staining her hands like crimson paint.

They say first impressions are everything....

In the murky waters of New York’s underworld, Elena’s sister is arranged to marry Nicolas Russo. A made man, a boss, a cheat—even measured against mafia standards. His reputation stretches far and wide and is darker than his black suits and ties.

After his and Elena’s first encounter ends with an accidental glare on her part, she realizes he’s just as rude as he is handsome. She doesn’t like the man or anything he stands for, though that doesn’t stop her heart from pattering like rain against glass when he’s near, nor the shiver that ghosts down her spine at the sound of his voice.

And he’s always near.

Telling her what to do.

Making her feel hotter than any future brother-in-law should.

Elena may be the Sweet Abelli on the outside, but she’s beginning to learn she has a taste for the darkness, for rough hands, cigarettes, and whiskey-colored eyes.

Having already escaped one scandal, however, she can hardly afford to be swept up in another. Besides, even if he were hers, everyone knows you don’t fall in love with a made man...right?

This is a stand-alone forbidden romance (with plenty of steam and angst.)

Ok, I have the ebook & paperback but I wish I had left it at that, the FMC voice on this audiobook just grated on my nerves & her pronunciation of the MMC's name, he was American/Italian but the way she said it, you would've thought he was Russian, even when she was saying Mamma, it wasn't how I know American/Italians' say it, sorry, these started to annoy me thru the book, also, the male narrator didn't have a deep enough voice to sound like a big, bad dominant Mafia Don, he was just too softly spoken for me & I had trouble marrying the two together but that's my own opinion, others may disagree, overall it was a great story but the voices for me, let it down in spades ♠️ (sorry, couldn't resist, lol) because of this, I doubt I'll be adding the remaining books in this series to my audible library & I'll just stick to the ebooks & paperbacks. I do appreciate a lot of time and effort goes into these audiobooks & I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to listen to it by using one of my credits, thank you 😁

I love a mafia book.. I did enjoy this book, was a nice quick read. It was definitely a slow burn. The chemistry and sexual tension between Elena and Nico was hot and intense. I loved the banter & humour between these two. Also loved that Elena is a kind and beautiful person but she’s also very feisty. Overall I enjoyed this book. Spice was good..

This book was written well with great characters, the stand offish vibes from Niko and the sassy sweet banter from elena was the perfect balance for this dark romance story.

The story kept you hooked and the characters had you screaming at them to just give in and confess multiple times. But the reasons for their guards was understandable.

The narrators did a fantastic job and delivered the story perfectly. Excited to hear more from all.

Pleasurable read

The start is a bit boring but the last 5-6 hours it great. Don’t drop it because it is sooo worth it

DONT GIVE UP

While this book had promise with its brooding mafia backdrop and forbidden romance setup, the drama often overshadowed the chemistry. Don’t get me wrong—the spice is there (just not the unholy levels I was promised).

What truly carried this audiobook were the narrators. Their voices added depth and tension to moments that might’ve otherwise felt flat. If you’re into mafia romance with sibling-adjacent tension and heaps of family chaos, give it a go. Just temper your expectations.

A mafia romance with plenty of drama, just not enough bite

I loved this book so much, one thing I wished was that the voice of the male was deeper as it didn't really give me 'mafia vibes' and when the women spoke as the man it didn't feel like it was a man speaking. I prefer when the male lines are read by a male and the female lines are spoken by a female. The female and male did a good job however and I did enjoy the story. Overall wasn't an awful audiobook and they did a good job but I think it could have been better.

Loved the story
