About this listen

In this latest mouthwatering mystery starring French country cop, Bruno, the body of a woman is found outside a cave beneath the ruined Templar chateau of Commarque in the heart of the Dordogne. She died of a broken neck. An accidental fall, or was she pushed?

The victim carries no identification and her fingerprints are not known to the French Police or Interpol. The only clue to the woman's identity is that her dentistry looks American, but Bruno's inquiries at local hotels and gites yield no trace of a missing foreign woman.

The chateau of Commarque, begun in the 11th century, was founded by a Bishop of Sarlat and entrusted to the Knights Templar. In the rocks beneath it are caves. It is one of the few Templar sites in France that has never been associated with the fabled hidden treasure of the Templars - never until now, when a local journalist publishes a sensational story around the unknown woman's death and a centuries-old mystery looks like it might finally be solved....

Love the setting but for reasons I don't quite understand I am finding this novel in the series tricky to follow .

The author is working hard to combine all plot points of prior novels and use characters whom we have met in previous episodes and perhaps this is at the heart of my confusion. There is a lot going on and a host of characters,

There are many characters and two ot three plotlines going on and I am losing my way..

The narrator seems to be voicing Bruno as rather gruff voiced on occasions which I was not aware of in previous novels,
Exciting ending to this novel where Bruno and his chums perform dating dos and the action is well written.

Contemporary journalistic insights but the smooth narration didn't match the grittier audible interpretation I needed.

Bruno's adventures continue in "The Templars' Last Secret" and Martin Walker presents a wonderful blend of mystery, history and French rural living. Most recommended.

Another delicious treat by Martin Walker.

I love these Bruno/Martin Walker books.I'm totally hooked on these books. I also think the narrator, Peter Noble is perfect for these books 😃😃

Fascinating storyline, I feel as though I have learned a lot, can’t wait for the next one.

Martin Walker just gets better!

Felt this rather plodded along, a bit of a pot boiler, not as good as his usual storylines. But well narrated.

Not one of his best

Poor, very disappointing. I have loved all of these books. I found description of characters 'flowery ' and the story line too incredible for words. I will not read another book in this series , I will keep my good memories of the other 9 books which I really did enjoy and recommend to everyone.

Poor not normal standard.
