About this listen

Murder, mystery and a dog of distinction. Heathcliff Lennox investigates.

A suspicious accident, a dead man's gun and a lost tomb. Strange events disturb the peace of Lanscombe Park, the magnificent country seat of Lord Godolphin Sinclair.

Adventurer, gold prospector and arms dealer, Sinclair has spent a lifetime amassing a fortune with ruthless determination. He's a man frightened of nothing, until he receives a package from the distant past. Someone knows his secrets, they kill, and then they kill again. A game of cat and mouse is afoot, Major Heathcliff Lennox and ex Inspector Swift are called to Lanscombe Park to investigate.

Wonderful

Each new book by Karen immediately becomes a favourite in my library and this book didn’t disappoint. Another lovely story with a hint of humour, charming characters, and well researched plot, superbly read by Sam, thank you both

Lennox and a châtelaine

Love this series and it comes to life thanks to the talents of Sam Dewhurst-Phillips (with added barks) 😊

Looking forward to the next

Another excellent instalment

Heathcliff Lennox is still struggling to cement his relationship with Perse as he arrives at the scene of yet another suspicious death. Unfortunately, she doesn't seem particularly pleased to see him, which is odd since it was at her urgent request that he reluctantly left home. The usual entourage arrives with him - his butler, his friend, and former DI, Swift, his dog, his cat - to a less than enthusiastic welcome. Can Lennox overcome his diffidence and reserve to both solve the murder and win back his frosty ex-fiancee?

This series continues to please with sound period research, incidental characters to like and loathe and a regular cast to greet as old friends. Regular interjections by Mr Fogg, though, have one of my dogs leaping up at regular intervals to see off the intruder!

Brilliant…..again

Great story and faultless narration.

Great story lines and characters.
Not managed to guess the murderer yet though.

Perfect

Perfect match of voice and story, utterly engrossing, fundamentally warm, characters and landscape come to life. Sam Dewhurst-Phillip’s voice makes me relax immediately: rich and deep, nothing fluffy… and his comic timing…usually Re Lennox’s asides to himself the novel itself not a comedy…is perfect too. Loved the whole series and looking forward to the next one.

Just keeps getting better!

I have listened to all this series and they just keep on delivering. I think this one is a close second to my favourite- Death in Damascus, but they are all excellent and far better than many other 1920's murder mysteries on offer. The books are laugh out loud amusing, clever, historically accurate and I rarely guess the murderer until the end, which hardly ever happens to me. Sam Dewhurst-Phillips is an amazing narrator, with a wide range of voices and accents that just makes the story sing. I wish he narrated many more authors which I would probably buy just for his narration alone.

Another enjoyable Heathcliff Lennox story

Loved every moment of this latest Karen Menuhin story, I am very surprised no one has yet thought to make a cinematic version of this series of books. The narration was as always first class , Sam Dewhurst Phillips being the best narrator I have yet encountered on Audible.
