Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

MURDER AND DECEPTION IN THE OLD BAILEY.

Meet Adam Green. Misfit. Purveyor of justice. Barrister-in-training.

When hero policeman Grant Cliveden dies from a poisoning in the Old Bailey, it threatens to shake the country to its core.

The evidence points to one man. Jimmy Knight has been convicted of multiple offences before and defending him will be no easy task. Not least because this is trainee barrister Adam Green's first case.

But it will quickly become clear that Jimmy Knight is not the only person in Cliveden's past with an axe to grind.

The only thing that's certain is that this is a trial which will push Adam - and the justice system itself - to the limit . . .

Critic reviews

'This is a book that takes you to the dark heart of the criminal justice system. They are all here - the good, the bad, the innocent and the guilty. I have not enjoyed a legal thriller this much since Grisham's The Firm' Tony Parsons

'The Trial is in the best tradition of John Mortimer's Rumpole series. A hugely enjoyable British courtroom drama' Steve Cavanagh

'Brilliant courtroom drama, humorous as you would expect from Rob, and one that I had to read slowly because I did not want it to end' Heidi Perks

The ending was a bit weak

The book is good very good , but the last few chapters really make hard to make it’s a 5 out of 5.

Can’t wait for the next

I wouldn’t say better than Agatha (as one review does) but definitely up there with the best. I do hope we see more! The only downside was the narration- it was ok but given the opportunity for acerbic sarcasm and wit I think it could have been read by a stronger narrator. I found him a bit hurried maybe and weak in places which is a shame given the fantastic chances these characters offered. Still one of the best books I’ve listened too of late, I did love it.

Super

If this had been in physical book form it’s definitely a page turner. . Couldn’t stop listening. Really well read and a plot full of mastery. Beautifully articulate as you’d expect from Rob Rinder and oh my goodness, the suspense and twists and turns. Fabulous. Can’t wait to see if there’ll be a sequel actually

A great read faithful to the occupation

I often feel like books concerning the courts are so glamourised, it acts as a camouflage to the truth. This book tells a great story following the hard work and dedication normally seen by aspiring solicitors/barristers. Touching on the flaws of the legal systems, which we all abide by.

Credit to the narrator. I seldom feel that the voice actors personify the characters well, in this instace he distinguished each character well .
