About this listen

The first tremors of the earth were felt at 7:22 EST. time. Every single person felt the rumbling and experienced the tremors that would forever alter the course of history. Most did not survive. These are the accounts of some of those who did.

Following three sets of people, The Upheaval is filled with heartbreak and hope. The day starts out like any other but soon goes to calamity. From earthquake to fire to tsunami, they must face disaster from every angle - the world they once knew has shattered in a just a few hours.

This is a very gripping, tense read. The natural disasters come one after another as the main characters try to stay alive using their wits and instincts. The tension is unrelenting though the real time in the book seems to be less than one day. The main characters are ordinary people and varied ages, which I like. Under the need to work together there's a quick development of bonds and mutual care and this gives you something to believe in and root for. At the end of the book they are still running ahead of the disasters and I definitely want to find out what happens next. So I'm into the next book in the series!

Gripping

Identikit, paint by numbers, ultra-generic post-apocalypse meander. All the clichés are ticked off and nothing is resolved. Reasonably well done but instantly forgettable.

Meh...

but gave up. First few chapters are OK but then it just gets b o r i n g . very similar to but not as good as The Mountain Man series, Yesterday's Gone series, etc. its an interesting premise that underdelivers.

I agree that the reader is too baritone and not particularly good at voicing different characters or at pacing the story.

my overall impression is .... Meh :\

I tried. I really did.

A really sad lack of diversity and some awful gender stereotypes ruined this for me.

Not great but passable

Really enjoyed this book. Not your average apocalyptic story. Narration is good, though I am sometimes left questioning who spoke.

Interesting start to the series

A cracking audio book. Probably wouldn’t have downloaded but it was free with membership. I’m now downloading book 2 and am happy to use a credit for it.
I took a while to start to care about the characters but by the end I was routing for them. I enjoy apocalyptic novels which focus on individual stories, so this was a good book for me.
The only fault I have is that, like many people, I really don’t like it when bad things happen to animals. As the rest of the book was so good, I just skipped over some parts. Hence the four stars for the story, not five.
The narrator was excellent and struck the right tone for the story.
All in all, highly recommended.

There is a lot of story in this medium length book, so much happens in a short space of time.
The characters are well written and relatable.

The narration is superb, Stefan Rudnickni could bring my shopping list to life.

A very good story
