loved this whole series, thoughly enjoyed it. however, I'm left with that sadness when you finish a book or series. Ferox, Vindex and Bran et al had become family.

This has been a brilliant series. This one felt like it should be the last in the series and maybe some loose ends were tied up rather conveniently but I do look forward to seeing what comes next from Goldsworthy.

terrific read, historical fiction needs research and facts interlaced into story, and Adrian does this incredibly well.
set amid the most fought over piece of land in the British Isles, Ferox and his wife, the Queen of the Brigantes, face foes from North and south, and from Rome itself.
plus Peter Noble is joint top (of 3) narrators in genre, I buy books just on thier names alone, such a talent to give voice to Claudia.

Grief that this is the last of a great series!

I loved the historical detail, but I found it difficult to finish. It all seemed rather aimless, with no connections. Disappointing as a story, great for historical detail.

Seemed to lack a plot

I really enjoyed the first couple of this series, but most of the time had no idea what was going on in this one. The author has a tendency to use ‘the man’, ‘the centurian’, ‘the soldier’ etc instead of names, which may be very dramatic, but had me totally confused throughout. About half way I started jumping forward by chapters as there was a long skirmish with no clear indication of who was doing what…
