About this listen

Robin has made a powerful ally in the Duke of Lancaster. But he has made powerful enemies too: not only his childhood adversary Mortimer, but the sadistic knight Peter de Gray. Returning to England, he is awarded the fiefdom of Fernbrook in Lancashire, where he meets the beautiful noblewoman Joanna.

But the wheel of fortune keeps turning and as the years pass Robin and his friends must face trials and tragedies: plague, war and political intrigue are never far away. And when Fernbrook falls into the covetous hands of the irredeemably wicked young Earl of Burton, Robin must confront horrors at home which rival even the bloodshed he has experienced in the ongoing wars against France....

In the second installment of a six-part epic, Medieval Europe is brought to life in a multi-cast drama based on the novels by Rebecca Gable, author of the Scarlet City trilogy.

Featuring: Gareth Armstrong, Tim Bentinck, Will Bishop, Gabriel Clark, Clare Corbett, Raymond Coulthard, Gareth David-Lloyd, Barnaby Edwards, Jonathan Firth, Philip Franks, Raj Ghatak, Helen Goldwyn, Anthony Howell, Joe Jameson, Jacqueline King, Rosalyn Landor, Damian Lynch, Michael Maloney, Miriam Margolyes, Tony Millan, Darin Nagada, Nisha Nayar, George Naylor, Steven Pacey, Nicholas Pegg, Vineeta Rishi, Dan Starkey, Alexander Vlahos, Lizzie Waterworth-Santo, Finty Williams, Sophie Winkleman and Becky Wright.

excellent story told by the wonderful Miriam Margolyes. I can listen to her all day long. she knows exactly where to portray joy or sadness and had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I'm now going to find the next chapter.

Well written, beautifully narrated, Great actin.

It flowed so well, I was sceptical after a couple of reviews, but really was hooked. With moments of triumph for Robin, and of course sadness.

The chapters flow seamlessly and I don't know where the hours went, but I will be getting book number 3.

Rebecca Gable has such an excellent knowledge combined with story telling skills. I feel educated, and entertained.

So so good, but…… audible, what have you done????

I started this series after listening to the Scarlett city series.

I have just seen though that parts 4,5 and 5 are suspended indefinitely????

I am devastated, I need the rest of this story

Stick with it!

It is an excellent story, very well acted and narrated. Yes, the background music is gratuitous and really annoying but if you stick with it you stop hearing it - mostly! That’s not to say the music isn’t good it’s just that it isn’t background type Muzak so they should either have music or speaking, not both together.

I was completely absorbed.

I couldn't stop listening and now I'm impatient for the release of the third book. Excellent performances all round and completely to my taste. I've been transported to another time.

I even got used to the background music which to be honest I found slightly irritating in the first book although I understand it's purpose in creating an atmosphere.
