About this listen

Mark Renton is a very sick young man. He's sick of heroin and sick of trying to get off it but, above all, Renton is thoroughly sick of himself. What with vampire ghost babies, exploding siblings and disatorous sexual encounters, it's pain to see why Renton gloomily contends that 'life does not get any easier'.

I thought the narrator did an excellent job on this and really brings the characters to life. I also think the sound effects and music are a nice touch, without being in any way intrusive. My big problem with this audiobook is that so much of the original book has been cut out. It isn't even 3 hours long and without having read the book or watched the film the story here will jump and skip events without making a lot of sense. I think this is a shame as the content produced was very good, it just isn't enough.

This was so captivating from the very start. The narration really is excellent here and makes you feel the fragility and humanity of each character. I would say there are moments that are quite poetic and almost beautiful in it's descriptions of working class life in Edinburgh. You can understand why the characters turn to heroin but also get how it ruins their lives too. I loved this and enjoyed is just as much as the brilliant film based on it. I highly recommend it even if some parts of the book are cut out it doesn't take away from this incredible story!

A horrific beauty!

I enjoyed the performances of the audio but was very disappointed how it missed half of the novel. To be fair, the duration of the audio is approx only 2 hours long so this should have been a hint that it did not cover the whole novel. Nevertheless, I think this should be highlighted before purchasing. Not great value for money.

Not read directly from the book

THIS IS NOT A READING OF THE FULL BOOK! It's a ripp off i should've guessed form the short time, but still i bought it. but its not the full book? And I can't get a refund even though it was so dissapointing to listen too.

NOT THE FULL BOOK

Straight to the point, it's the worst reading of a book I have ever heard, I am Scottish and well aware that it is written in dialect but the combination of bad reading and even worse sound effects in the back ground made me switch off after half an hour.

Terrible

This isn't the full book. Didn’t notice the duration when I got it. Don't waste your money
