About this listen

Every crime is connected. But who is pulling the strings?

The chilling thriller from the mind of million-copy best-selling author M. J. Arlidge

A crimewave sweeps through the city and no one is safe. An arson at the docks. A carjacking gone wrong. A murder in a country park. What connects all these crimes without causes, which leave no clues?

Detective Inspector Helen Grace faces the rising tide of cases which threatens to drown the city. But each crime is just a piece of a puzzle which is falling into place.

And when it becomes clear just how twisted and ingenious this web of crime is, DI Grace will realise that it may be impossible to stop it....

A relentless, nail-biting mystery from the master of the killer thriller.

Very entertaining as you would expect from this author. Elizabeth Bower is excellent as ever.

Kept me guessing

Really enjoyed this. It started off a bit complicated with lots of characters and events but this ended up being essential for the story which unfolded with increasing drama. I can imagine this as a TV 3-part or similar. It was my first helen grace book so I want to read more now.

Sneaky,

No spoilers but a cliff hanger…pretty annoying. Good book, kept me hooked, predictable though. I’m a bit disappointed, will say the cliff hanger is more about DI grace than the storyline but that is the direction of the series I think. I keep buying these because ive listened to them all, but I lost the impetus to have to buy the next one. I got back on board a year or so later….still a good story. Narration is great (except for Hudson….im scouse, he isn’t, he’s not even Wirral). Still enjoy it. Feels a bit throwing characters in to keep the narrative going. You can’t keep a good thing going forever…and that’s what it feels like. Feel awful saying this because the earlier books are gripping (bear in mind I’m listening, and reading is a whole different experience). Hmmmm, just a tad disappointed, I do love this series though. Bring Charlie back! …just get a childminder :) I don’t hate the book, it was entertaining and gripping, and I was there watching it play out, so good writing and good narration. Better than a lot of other books I’ve listened to lately.

Well worth a listen

Well written, good plot and a brilliant performance by the narrator. There are a lot of characters but the story is fairly easy to keep up. A definite page turner.

Page Turner….

A brilliant, exciting storyline with a wealth of characters involved, so much so, I often found myself re-reading chapters to make sure I had the right characteristics for the right persona! M.J. Aldridge kept the suspects and story flowing, so well, that you didn’t want to stop listening. Elizabeth Bower, too, used her reading skills to keep this fast-paced story exciting to the very end….or has it ended??? Brilliant.

Not Bad...But

I have enjoyed this book and it is well read. But has dragged bit. I like a police procedural, but this wonders off at times too far onto the personal lives of the characters. Not a bad thing you may say, but I like to just stay with the story. This one leads you into the next book very cleverly. Oh and the plot is pretty unbelievable. But this is fiction so I'm not going to moan. If you like a fairly simple book with very little gore and a touch of sex then give it a go!

easy listening, not too taxing.

I always default to this crime writer. interesting plots, characters devolop over the books. First time having this author on audio (Helen Grace sounds meaner in my head) good performance.
an interesting easy listen. teen and upwards

A return to form 🥳

So much better than the last few books. It’s a far fetched story but thoroughly enjoyable.
