About this listen

THE NO. 1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING AUTHOR

WINNER OF THE GLASS KEY AWARD

In this heart-pounding installment of the No.1 bestselling Department Q series, a terrifying international investigation reveals the complex backstory of one of the department's own - the enigmatic Assad.

The newspaper refers to the dead body only as Victim 2117 - the two thousand, one hundred and seventeenth refugee to die in the Mediterranean Sea.

But to three people, the victim is so much more, and the death sets off a chain of events that throws Department Q, Copenhagen's cold cases division led by Detective Carl Mørck, into a deeply dangerous - and deeply personal - case: a case that not only reveals dark secrets about the past, but has deadly implications for the future.

For a troubled Danish teen, the death of Victim 2117 becomes a symbol of everything he resents and is the perfect excuse to unleash his murderous impulses. For Ghallib, a brutal tormentor from the notorious prison Abu Ghraib, the death of Victim 2117 was the first step in a terrorist plot, years in the making. And for Department Q's Assad, Victim 2117 is a link to his buried past and to the family he assumed was long dead.

I didn’t buy the last 2 books in the series as the narrator was changed from Steven Pacey and just from the samples I decided not to waste my money and disappoint myself. I am so pleased they have finally seen sense - this was a fantastic series and I thoroughly enjoyed all the department q books up until that point. I’m only part way through this one and so far it seems just good as the first ones with Steven Pacey - he really does bring these books to life. I do feel I have missed a large chunk from not buying the last 2 but I’ll have to deal with that (unless of course if they re-do them.......)

Thank goodness Steven Pacey is back!!

Was so delighted to find the next Dept Q instalment, and it did not disappoint.
Thrilling story and maintenance and development of all the key characters added to the interest and involvement.
And of course Steven Pacey’s narration and interpretation is superb! I love his voice with its flexibility and depth of portrayal. Thanks!

Excellent!

Not sure if there will be any more books in the series after this one, I hope so.

As in the last book we found out about Rose's life, this book is all about Assad's life. It is gripping, horrifying, and just so incredibly sad, because other than the dramatic license the author has used in creating a saga, so much of it rings of truth. The horrors of war and the conflict in the middle east, terrorists and their fanaticism.

Overall well written, and the performance was as always very good. I even find the British accents used in places of Scandi accents fun.

Really excellent installment

Very good book and interesting, tense story.
Department Q novels are really up there in quality. Love the characters, style, interesting plots and character development as the story progresses.
Good job Olsen
Perfectly performed by Steven Pacey, as all of his performances that i have heard so far.
Enjoyed it and would recommend this to anyone, as I am sure that even people that are against audio books would enjoy anything read by Steven Pacey.

Enjoyed and recommended!

As with all the department Q books, it had me hooked from the first chapter. But what was most a axing was finally having Steven Pacey back on the narration. Absolutely superb. If they could just ask him to Re narrate the last 2 books that would be awesome

Thank God Pacey is Back

Excellent from start to finish. What a rollercoaster of a ride! Phew!!

I cannot recommend this outstanding book and series highly enough. The author is a literary genius in my opinion.

This author and this particular narrator are royalty, as far as I am concerned. What a partnership!

(And as far is this narrator is concerned, I listen to ANYTHING he narrates because he brings any and every single character and scene to life.)

Wow! Well-worth the Long Wait!

First rate thriller. One of the best in the series. Goes at a fast pace even with the flashbacks.

Epic, compelling, moving.
