I nearly couldn't get past the first couple chapters (very ye olde English) but it was definitely worth it and the language modernises pretty quickly.
Quit dilly-dallying and get the book already

don't give up it's a masterpiece

I have often thought audiobooks could be more than the sum of their parts. I've listened to quite a wide range of them, some with excellent texts, with excellent readers, some fully dramatised.

Voice of the Fire somehow manages to weave performance, text and artfully composed sound design into something truly transcendent of the form.

Within this audiobook you will find interwoven stories of Northampton ranging from prehistory to present day. The stories are beautifully realized by a variety of talents including Maxine Peake, Jason Williamson and Mark Gaddis. It is haunting, beautiful, brutal and heartbreaking by turn.

This is an outstanding piece of art that deserves repeated listening. it will stay with you for a long time.

A remarkable piece of artistry

A gem of a book read beautifully by an array of artists not excluding the author himself.
A shadow reflection of the psychic geography of the aforementioned authors native town.
Grimy, brutal and enthrallingly grotesque in its pulchritude.
The last chapter had me in goose bumps for hours after it’s narration. This is the puissance of Alan Moore.

Everything burns

"Only zips and velcro killed him"

A great volume made of stories spread along a perforated timeline which are different but also so much the same. It is interesting, beautifully written but of so depressing. Full of sexual frustrations, defecation, peeing, magic, witchcraft and death. I'm so glad I read Jerusalem first as although it's book is just as well written it's left me feeling very down.

A great but ultimately depressing book

I bought the novel when it was first released and only read the first chapter. This was my first foray into audio books and what a treat. I feel as though I have listened to a series of radio plays, stretching back over 4000 years. The tales are dark and ominous, horrifying and fantastic. I’m a fan of Alan Moore’s comics, so I had an idea of what to expect. My advice is to persevere, this is a very unique book, maybe a masterpiece.

A fascinating series of tales

Some people just want to see the world burn in astounding trembling light of spiritual historical bright blueprints of ghosts long forgotten, of blood, spit, tears and blight.

A reminder of what was and never can pass. The magic of seeing what could happen when stay with the stories of the land, it’s people and their sacrifice.

A cunning display of theatre of soul displayed for those who want to carry the alchemist recipient home.

Some people just want to see the world burn.
