About this listen

The first in a stunning new crime series from international best seller Adam Croft.

A peaceful Sunday morning in Rutland is shattered when a dead body is discovered on the rocks at Normanton Church. The victim has been laid out in a crucifixion pose, facing the altar. DI Caroline Hills is certain there’s a religious connection - one which threatens the tranquillity of life in the area. The killer has gone to extraordinary lengths to make the symbolism clear. And the deaths will continue until Caroline and DS Dexter Antoine uncover the truth behind the dark secret - and what lies beneath.

Absolutely love the narration. Really spot on. Have listened to two books this week. Don't understand why some of the chapters are so short, like a mere 30 seconds of narration. The. Book is just over 5 hours. Might have. Improved the flow if there were less. Chapters but longer. Overall though, loved the book. On to the. Next!!!

What a Narrator!!

Gave up on this the narrator narrator didn’t draw me in and I lost interest

Hard to get into the story

I enjoyed this book, twists and turns in the whodunnit. And also a local landmark to me, so fun recognising places I knew.
Looking forward to book 2

really loved the story line but this was let down by one or two slips of place names. it is really annoying for someone who grew up in Rutland and spent many hours in Oakham and surrounding areas.

poor pronunciation of some street and place names.

There was so much hype about this book I bought it and the next one in the series at the same time what a waste of money and a few hours of my life I’ll never get back! Awful narration and the whole book was so predictable- I reckon a kid doing a creative writing course could have done far better! I’d have given it no stars if that were possible

Utter drivel!

I did manage to get to the end of this book, but it was hard work. Like many books it is bulked out with descriptions of peoples views and opinions. Also much is said about the surroundings of each chapter, but very little about the actual story. which by my reckoning could be told in one hour. It is not even saved by the narrator, who reads it in a very flat boring manner. Don't waste a credit on this..

Dire

A complete waste of time & effort. I liked Adam Croft.....

Don’t bother with this book???

I thought the characters were uninteresting and the plot was poor. No interesting detection. Disappointing storyline

Terrible plot

This felt like someone had watched a couple of crime dramas, read the Wikipedia page on Rutland water then spent a Sunday afternoon writing their first ever crime novel. No-one seemed to investigate anything, and police would quip things like "we need to find the killer!" as if that wouldn't be obvious. I found the motive to be entirely unlikely and the backstory for the lead detective cliched.

The narrator was a local so the accent was good. That was about the best thing, but the dialogue was so flat it was hard for even the best actor to bring it to life.

At least it was short.

Repetitive, simplistic and predictable
