صحيح أن الشمس تطل على أرجاء المدينة من جهة الشرق، وتذوب في الأفق من جهة الغرب. وصحيح أن سكانها يحملون ساعات على معاصمهم. صحيح أن من بينهم من يحترم المواعيد، ومن بينهم من يخلفها. وصحيح أنهم في حالة إدراك دائمة بامتداد الخط الفاصل بين الحياة والموت. ولكن ما بين هاتين النقطتين، نقطة البداية والنهاية، كان لكل سكان المدينة رحلته الخاضعة مع الوقت. فعند البعض منهم كان الوقت هو مال، وعند آخرين كان الوقت قوة.
