Edith Meiser, Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher wrote the episodes. Paley, a fan of the Philip Marlowe radio series, asked his programming chief, Hubell Robinson, to develop a hardboiled Western series, a show about a "Philip Marlowe of the Old West".
