About this listen

Liam Kelly is in love with his best friend. His straight, freshly divorced best friend, who wants to experiment…with him.

Ollie: The last thing I expected from my wife was a divorce. I’d checked all the boxes off—cozy house near my folks, joined the family business as a contractor, and married right out of high school. Except the more I think about how distant we’ve been, the more our split makes sense. And the more time I spend blowing off steam with my best friend, the more I want to actually...blow him.

Liam: Have I been hopelessly in love with Ollie my entire life? Yes, yes, I have. Has he been married for the past decade? Yes, yes, he has. However, when his wife calls it quits, my heart can’t help contriving scenarios where he might not be as straight as he seems. And when those scenarios start coming true—from scorching looks to playful grapples until we go much further—I throw myself into the deep end.

The second we start hooking up, I can’t hold back the feelings I’ve been clutching tight to for over a decade. But if this ends up a rebound for Ollie, a blip before he looks for a new wife, I won’t only be out a best friend, but the love of my life.

Ollie and Liam's best friends to lovers romance was a delight to listen to. I've long been a fan of this trope, especially when one of the best friends has been pining for years, and this book hit on all of the attributes I find irresistible. The catalyst for Ollie wanting to experiment was his divorce, but despite the emotional upheaval he should have been feeling, he was pretty even-keeled about the whole thing. I completely understand why Liam was scared to get his hopes up, because it's not every day that the man you've been in love with for years suddenly wants to jump into a physical relationship with no holds barred. As the two of them explored their chemistry, it was impossible not to fall head over heels and delight in their compatibility. The two of them definitely moved fast, but because they'd been friends for most of their lives they had a strong foundation to build upon that made me believe in the connection between them. Liam and Ollie did fall into a couple of miscommunication traps throughout the book, and they had to confront one of Liam's biggest insecurities of being a dirty secret that his best friend wanted to hide from everyone else. I thought the angst to sweetness ratio was nicely balanced, and I was glad to see the two of them work through their hiccups together and come out on the other side stronger.

I loved Liam and Ollie together so so much. They were super sweet and had absolutely explosive chemistry. They were both lovable characters and I was rooting for them from chapter one. One of the things I really enjoyed in this book was reading about Ollie's bi awakening. It was also great being back with Liam's group of friends. It was wonderful to see them help and support both Liam and Ollie. And Ollie's family was the best.
Fantastic narration, I really loved how the narrator voiced the characters, the audio quality was also brilliant. I had the best time listening this book.

Loved it so much!!

Thoroughly enjoyed Liam and Ollie's story :)
A pretty much angst-free story of 2 BFFs joined at the hip - one has been in love with the other for ages. When Ollie's marriage breaks down, he turns to Liam, his BFF, who's always had his back. Liam pretty much decided to play the field, since he can't have Ollie - or so he thinks. The simplicity with which they fall into attraction/feelings/love is nicely written, the one time there was a slight misunderstanding, it was understandable and handled quickly. There was one thing that did niggle, it was whether Ollie's divorce was finalised before they got really hot and heavy together, (it was not not enough to detract from the story, for me).
Loved seeing friends from the previous books - this totally stands alone - Ollie's family.
Nice narrated by Dan Levy, lovely cadence. I enjoyed his performance, made me want to listen while sitting in big armchair with a glass of wine. I always enjoy his narration.
Recommend!

Reread as audiobook. Really enjoyable and well fitting narration.
Story - 4.5 stars. Definitely one of the best best friends to more, including clueless to bi-awakening that I've read. Ollie's complete loyalty to Josie while they were together was really a very appealing character trait, and his lack of concern about realising he felt more for Liam after they decided on divorcing was charming. The next spin-off series with more of the Brannon family sounds great.

I read Katherine McIntyre's Joint Penetration, which is the third book in their Hot under the Collar series. All of these stories can be enjoyed as standalones.

This is a fun "first time" friends to lovers story with little angst and a nice supporting cast.

The audio version of Joint Penetration is nicely performed by Dan Levy.

A fun "first time", Nice job by D. Levy

I think this is my favourite of the series, and I'm a massive sucker for best friends to lovers. Ollie and Liam were the sweetest, and Ollie had like the lowest-angst biawakening ever, and even his divorce, which should have been angst-central, was incredibly amicable. I devoured this in a day, despite the fact I had lots of other things I was supposed to be doing (sorry guys) and it kept my attention. Definitely recommend, it's just a lovely book. And the intimacy and tension? Wow! That was a lot lol.

Was I prepared to dislike Ollie in this one at least initially? I definitely was. I mean, he's been married for a number of years and when his wife divorces him, suddenly he's ready to try a relationship with his best friend Liam who has been pining for him all this time. Not a character I was prepared to cut any slack. Oh, how wrong I was. Ollie isn't afraid to think long and hard about where his life and his marriage went wrong and honestly face what he should have been seeing right in front of him all these years. These two made a wonderful couple who deserved their HEA. Dan Levy did a wonderful job, especially with Ollie and his soul-searching.
