About this listen

In Olympus, you either have the power to rule...or you are ruled. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into the poisonous city's inner circle. Now that a coveted role has opened to anyone with the strength to claim it, he and his partner, Patroclus Fotos, plan to compete and double their odds of winning.

Neither expect infamous beauty Helen Kasios to be part of the prize...or for the complicated fire that burns the moment she looks their way.

Zeus may have decided Helen is his to give away, but she has her own plans. She enters into the competition as a middle finger to the meddling thirteen rulers, effectively vying for her own hand in marriage. Unfortunately, there are those who would rather see her dead than lead the city. The only people she can trust are the ones she can't keep her hands off of—Achilles and Patroclus. But can she really believe they have her best interests at heart when every stolen kiss is a battlefield?

Fantastic story line, keeps you guessing at each turn. Characters are develope well. The thought process of the characters is a bit reparative. So far Book 3 is my favourite.

Refreshing

It Can only get three stars for the story because it’s a smutty book - but the story works, the smut works (obviously 😌) and the performance is immaculate 👌🏼

I had such high hopes for this. I pre-ordered it as soon as I knew it was being released, as I absolutely loved the previous two books in the Dark Olympus series - Neon Gods and (particularly) Electric Idol. I'd read a couple of the books in her Wicked Villains series too and, although I hadn't enjoyed them as much as Dark Olympus, they'd been engaging enough.

I gave up halfway through this. I had already begun to pick up on how much Katee Roberts recycles stock phrases that she likes - once you start noticing how often the female character says "I bite my lip" or the male character "notches at her entrance" it really starts to stick out. But a lot of the characterisation felt like a repeat of some of her other works which feature MMF relationships - the aggressive, alpha male character who is absolutely ripped, takes the lead every time, and gradually learns to be more vulnerable; the more sensitive, gentle male character who acts as more of a voice of reason; the sassy, otherworldly gorgeous female character, usually with a difficult or overbearing family; absolutely everyone is bi- or pansexual and open to absolutely anything sexually.... It begins to become rather predictable after a few rounds of the same routine.

Extremely formulaic if you've read Katee Roberts
