About this listen
As a child Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man.
When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating - and waiting for suitable prey. Hoop and his associates uncover a nest of Xenomorphs, and hell takes on a new meaning. Quickly they discover that their only hope lies with the unlikeliest of saviors....
Ellen Ripley, the last human survivor of the salvage ship Nostromo.

Not bad, not great
Certainly some enjoyable parts to it. But the flashbacks to Amanda get annoying after a while. Also Ripley's voice doesn't suit her character.

Disappointing
I expected too much of this book and was very disappointed. It is shoe horned into the Alien timeline and regurgitates the same story lines with only a small attempt at originality. I found the narration deeply annoying as the narrator goes up at the end of a sentence, completely destroying any tension in the scene. I do not recommend this book.

Not bad, not great
Fairly predictable story which felt like it rehashed tropes from the movies rather than create original storylines. The narrators attempts at female voices were jarring too. That said it was entertaining and I did listen through to the end.

Interesting idea
An interesting idea to have a story between the first two Alien films. The idea as to why Ripley ends up on the Marion is certainly plausible, however I'm not sure the results of this were played out to their complete end.
Ripley's waking nightmares quickly become tiresome and are really just there to provide an excuse for the 'blank slate' result at the end.
The idea of another race and the civilisation of that race was definitely interesting and something I would like to see progressed further, and especially their interactions with the Xenomorphs.
Definitely better than the 'radio play' version.

Enjoyable, if somewhat limited thriller
The book lived up to expectation but had a constrained ending, taking away some shine

Good single story, but bad in the bigger story
One of these let's put this in the time line where it does not fit, but we will solve it by making it pointless in the bigger scheme.
Great story that becomes pointless, because it was all just a "dream".

Better than the dramatisation
I enjoyed the full cast dramatisation very much. But, this was actually better. You get crucial inner monologues and the full cast version of this changed the story significantly in places.
The voice actor is really good too.

Awful narration put me off
I got about a third of the way through this book and had to give it up. The narration sucked all the life out of it. This weird upward inflection, in a monotonous tone with every sentence sounding the same as the previous one, drove me crazy. I went instead to the Audible version with actors. It was excellent – 10 episodes and really worth a listen.

Good story but doesn't quite fit
I really liked the story and the characters but I think it would have been better without the addition of Ripley.... I spent the whole time wondering how the author was going to get around explaining exactly how these events fitted into the existing timeline, only to be eventually somewhat disappointed by it. Not the best Alien book but certainly not the worst.

if you love the Alien Franchise then this should be part of it between alien and alien fits into the time.
