About this listen

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast - again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold an historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange - again . . .

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It's clear from the way he tracks Misery's every movement that he doesn't trust her. If only he knew how right he was . . .

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what's hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory . . . alone with the wolf.

*Ali Hazelwood's Bride was a Sunday Times bestseller w/e 10 February 2024.

Okay I never really got the whole shifter thing but boy oh boy do I get it now! So sweet, almost weirdly hot—I loved this book.

The vamp-werewolf romance you didn’t know you needed

The very good storyline. With intresing characters. Bradley enjoyed this book. I would love to read a follow-up book on the other characters

Great

🧡 A fierce, funny female lead with dialogue as sharp as fangs makes this my favourite book this year. Misery, for that is her name, is an utter delight. But there’s more.

💚 This star-crossed (moon-crossed?) lovers story between a vampire and werewolf has no cliches and no stupid misunderstandings shoehorned in to make the plot move. Instead, it builds tension at a steady pace.

SOUNDBITE

🎧 Therese Plummer is simply made for the role of Misery. She has the wit and dry delivery, but also delivers emotions aplenty. Loved her in The City Series by Sarah Lyons Fleming and loved her just as much here.

🎧 The “audio” aspect of this audiobook was taken very seriously, as evidenced by the adding of a male narrator for the interstitial segments voicing the role of Lo.

Romantasy audio at its bloody best

Really enjoyed the narration and the story in general. The smut writing fell flat and cringeworthy

Good story and narration. Questionable Spicy scenes

Loved every minute of this romance. It's not going to win any literacy awards but it is good fun. It's a little trashy, a little spicy and has good plot movement. Really enjoyable.

A fun book

A bit naughty. Was not expecting the story like to turn up the heat like that.

Great story line

Overall, a good story and I was hooked into it really quickly. For me, there was something missing from Misery and Lowe's connection though. I didn't feel it strongly and I feel like too many sex scenes slows the storyline and gets boring. This tipped the balance a bit for me, so lessened the enjoyment. Generally, though, an easy listen.

Hooked straight away
