Summary
'Are you happy in your life?'
Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he wakes to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before the man he's never met smiles down at him and says, 'Welcome back, my friend.'
In this world he's woken up to, Jason's life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.
Is it this world or the other that's the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could've imagined - one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.
From the author of the best-selling Wayward Pines trilogy, Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human - a relentlessly surprising thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we'll go to claim the lives we dream of.

Short Story Material
While listenable, I can’t help feel that the intelligence and complexity imbued might’ve stretched to a fine short story, but was too predictable otherwise.

A fun read!
A pretty good story by Blake Crouch. Intellectually challenging, good characters, and briskly plotted. The science sounds a little hokey and way out there, but I enjoyed this one nonetheless. Perhaps a little over the top on the emotional side of the plot. Otherwise, well read by Jon Lindstrom.

Disappointing ending. Was wondering where it was going to go…
I like the idea of the story, but it dragged on a bit and then the ending was disappointing. It didn't have much option for where it went but that's just my opinion!

Great story, but with flaws
I found the narrators attempt at female voices quite painful. The first chapter is riddled with clichés, but if you manage to get past then the story is great.

not great,
Keeps your attention but just about, tries to be scientific but there's more like than a time travel novel

A great original story well narrated..
The storyline may appear far fetched, however if one can start thinking 'outside the box' we may realize that our perception of the laws of physics is hopelessly inadequate to explain all the dimensions (and the interactions of different dimensional forces) in the universe we exist in. Perception is everything and we are inadequately prepared by the level of physics considered 'state of the art' at this time. There is a saying that advanced technologies may well appear no different than magic to the beholder. This book describes such a state of affairs somewhere in the future. If you can relate to it, enjoy the ride! Excellent narration, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It certainly made me think about new concepts and ideas. To me, that is one definition of a good book.

Jason, Jason, Jason...
This book started out suggesting a direction I was not entirely happy with, but rapidly turned corners and really grabbed me. The next theme came into my mind and I was mentally shouting at Jason but he was unable to hear me! That's how involved I had been become. . I was proved right (being vague here to stop myself from giving away plot). Then.... A surprise,, I'm happy to say that the ending was satisfying though not entirely unpredictable.
All in all a recommended read to tbose who can syspend disbelief and yet enjoy pseudo-science.
