About this listen
From USA Today best-selling author Parker S. Huntington comes an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance full of revenge and a dash of fate.
"She could enjoy her pretty, perfect world a little longer. Soon enough, everything she owned would be mine."
I had a plan to escape the friend zone. Step one: sneak into Reed’s room. Step two: sleep with him.
But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw. These were dark, angry, and full of demons. And they belonged to Reed’s much-older brother.
Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son. I’m no longer the town’s prized princess. At 22, I’m broke, in need of a job. At 32, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge. Who cares if my family ruined his? Who cares if he looks at me with pure loathing? Who cares if every task he assigns me is designed to torture? I need the money. Simple as that. I’ll suffer his cruelty in silence, knowing there’s one thing he wants more than revenge. Me.
Please note: This is a full-length stand-alone novel in the Cruel Crown world.

I don't know where to start, and I know I can't do this story justice in my review, but this is one very special novel. It is FANTASTIC. This is a gem of a tale. It's big, it's gutsy, it's an amazingly well crafted enemies-to-lovers story.
I have read the Anti-Fling by Ms Huntington (a very short story) about these two amazing people: Emery and Nash, and I knew in my bones that their story deserved a full novel. This story exceeded any expectations I had by a country mile! The characters are so well drawn and believable. They are flawed and quirky, struggling, angry and proud. The themes of penance, revenge, forgiveness and truth run throughout, and these two characters have an undeniable chemistry and sense of fate.
I have to commend the authors craft. Her words. The unusual, obscure words. I think she really must have put her heart and soul, and her whole everything into this story. It is absolutely amazing.
I do need to mention the two narrators who really added to this story. They brought the whole story to life.
Sublime

Despite their history which we learn about as we go along, this is a slow burn. The push and pull and the warring between them is really well written. The use of words, which is Emmory’s thing is really well done. The two slowly become closer until the inevitable happens, although there are plenty of plot twists along the way. There are some great side characters, and some great villains. Only thing I would criticise is the Reed/Basil situation. There is something towards the end which suggests some intrigue and I did wonder if another book was in the offing about Reed, however the epilogue suggests this won’t be the case? Other than this though it’s a great story.
Both narrators are great and do a really good job. Sebastian Yorke particularly is excellent at the grumpy, sarcastic, somewhat sadistic Nash. Particularly loved the bit where Sebastian Yorke himself is discussed by both characters - something to listen for.
Well worth a credit.

The main character’s obsession over words reeks of the author attempting to be smart but it’s just annoying.
It’s hard to follow what is thoughts or internal dialogue and what is speech. I hated the male narrator’s female voice.
Story unbelievable

When I first started listening I stopped and went on to another book, but that’s because I don’t think my concentration on the story was up to par and you DO need to really listen to the story.... because it’s REALLY good. There are so many different characters and the main two have different characters within. It’s a cleverly written book with sharp writing and some real witty laugh out loud moments. I LOVED it..... and the bonus? Well I mean..... it’s part read by Sebastian York. Say no more.
Loved Loved LOVED it.

This book is about 5 hours too long, there are chapters and chapters that should have been edited out. They were unnecessary and added nothing to the book. The main characters were frustrating. Emery just pissed me off with her stupid stubborn behaviour, but I didn’t hate her. What I did hate though was Nash acting like a complete di**head towards her without any real evidence that’s she deserved to be treated badly. I hate that his actions were basically forgiven, all because he started to feed her. Like are you serious?
I’m all for slow burners but this felt like it was moving at a snail pace, I had to listen to a lot of it at 1.25x speed just so I wouldn’t throw a fit.
If I never have to hear the word Sisyphus again it will be too soon. This is just an unremarkable book trying too hard.
Pretentious and long winded.
