About this listen

After being abandoned outside the gate of her village in the middle of the night as a baby, Cora has spent her life in this small village, avoiding the marriage lottery and the advances of men she considers boys, and working in her forge as the best blacksmith...even if no one will admit it. Until the Shamans come.

They're looking for someone...or something.

Cora has always had a temper, so when she sees the Shaman attempt to suck the soul of a boy, she stabs him mercilessly.

One problem...Shamans can't be killed.

Now she's on the run, fleeing the only home she knows. Until she runs into a huge, fire-breathing, stubborn dragon. Little does she know, this beast is more than just a dragon.

He's fused with a man.

A man that will change her life forever.

Flair's chapters were very hard to get through as the voice actor is so jarringly different to the the woman's, and definitely should not be credited first in the recording or on Audible. Ramona did a lot more work and was great at storytelling with her rise and fall in her voice, and general expressions even in really dark parts of the story. I am keen to finish the saga, but man I hope the reasoning for the male voice becomes more obvious. Without spoilers it somewhat makes sense, but the narrator could have been one with a few more dynamics in his voice to make the chemistry more believable on his part.

spoilers ahead: the kisses I found uncomfortable as the whole revelation of dragon and men situation was rushed as well as age difference. We needed a chapter where Cora spends time evaluating the discovery not just readily accepts and we have a time jump. There are also a few anachronisms which pulled me out of the story but it wasn't a dealbreaker. I feel like this is a good book to read for Eragon and Mistborn fans, but it could do with a re-edit in parts so it's more in keeping with the technology and time period and has more character development.

Few anachronisms, but good plot
