From the very start, this shows promise. Immediately funny with dark humour reminiscent of deadpool. However, it took a fair few hours of listening where the story seemed difficult to follow and I almost gave up a few times, until a well timed joke or wise crack helped stem that doubt.
About 3/4 of the way through the story and the introduction of Lily. That improved everything and things flowed better. At that point, I felt if this story is going to be done over a few books, then the time spent getting to that point was worth it.
The narration was ok. Some narrators are really good at changing their voice just enough that you just know which character they're speaking as. It was sometimes difficult with this narrator, but overall I think he captured the mindset of Nicks well.
Its definitely a delve into a version of madness. One that feels like a roller coaster at times.

What an enjoyable listen . Noah Ward does a brilliant job bringing the best out of this novel . Well written , engaging and a lot of fun . One of my new favorites . I brought the second book right away

I am like 4 hours into the book and I honestly still have no idea what he's talking about where or why he's there or even his name. I don't understand how we can go from great writen books and a top rated narrator who can do many voices to this..

I've really tried hard with this title. I loved Awaken Online and I thought this would be another winner for Mr Bagwell. Alas, I think I'll have to give up as it has failed to catch my attention after 10 hours of listening. I think the biggest problem is with the narration. His cadence is all over the place! Speaking quickly, pause, a couple of words, pause, quickly again, long pause. I found it incredibly distracting from the actual story, which I think is about a brother trying to rescue his sister despite him being a kind of class outcast. I kind of feel bad, but I feel I've given it plenty of time for it to grab me and it hasn't.
