Don’t just manage your ADHD – thrive with it

If you have, or suspect you have, ADHD, or you simply feel stuck – drowning in half-finished tasks, unhelpful habits and a perpetual feeling that you can’t seem to ‘get it together’ – then this book is for you.

As a leading adult ADHD psychiatrist, who himself has ADHD, Dr James Kustow passionately believes that the goal should not be to just ‘manage’ ADHD, but to thrive with it. This ground-breaking book will allow you to assess if and how the condition affects you, mapping your unique ‘ADHD signature’, before leading you through a seven-pillar plan of small but powerful habit changes. You will learn:

  • How to stabilise your sleep, schedule and surroundings, so you can direct energy to the things that really matter.
  • Easy-to-implement strategies and tools to streamline your life.
  • Simple techniques to calm your mind, reduce the ‘noise’ and achieve your goals, underpinned by a growth-oriented mindset.
  • Practical ways to optimise your nutrition and reduce toxic exposures, to improve brain health.

In small, manageable steps, you can transform the chaos into focus, productivity and balance – for life.

‘Affirming, validating and life-enhancing – if you think you may have ADHD, this book is for you’
– Matt Willis, musician and podcaster

A Practical Guide to Understanding and Managing Adult ADHD

The book is written in an easy-to-understand style, both explaining some of the medical and behavioural aspects of adult ADHD and providing an array of traditional and non-traditional methods for managing the disorder. It is non-judgemental and practical.
The book is so rich in detail and possible therapies, it can seem overwhelming. However, as Dr. Kustow recommends, it should be re-read and broken down in digestible sections, based on an individual’s specific ADHD needs and priorities.
One suggestion for the audiobook: it would be useful to have the resources section included as a written attachment for easier reference.
Another suggestion: a follow up book on how parents, partners and friends can best support loved ones with ADHD.

Very helpful information

Actionable advice, written in an easy to understand and self paced manner that has helped me greatly in my everyday life. The book is structured to be used more as a reference guide to keep coming back to and sets you up with useful prompts and exercises to get you started with certain things.

Finally!!!

Not ementa finished it yet and this book has already helped me so much. Diagnosed two years ago and yet not helped with how to manage this ADHD issue. I love the recognition that autoimmune disease is higher and I’m hyper mobile which has lead to injury. I’m so grateful there is a step by step guide as to what to do exactly. Practical informative. Thank you.

A book which has very useful information about non-pharmacological interventions for adhd

The book was an enjoyable listen for me as someone who supports people with ADHD. The authors style is calm and measured and candid account of his difficulties and what has worked for him add a depth of sincerity to this work. In my view, a mixture of qualitative and quantitative evidence that is presented to help people with ADHD thrive shows the rigour of this work.
A must listen and read for anyone interested in this area. Highly recommended.

So helpful for newly diagnosed

Structure. Details. Advice. It was very well organised and informative. I’m glad of the resources section.

Trust but verify

very good when he sticks to the science but too often veers off in to personal anecdotes or presents conclusions with no evidence. worth a reed but verify any claims made.

This book has loads of really good useful advice for ADHD

The author is likeable and knows his stuff .
The delivery is very dry for my taste and I presume I'm not alone in thinking this which is a problem for the type of people who will read this book . I have found some really useful practices in here but I've had to dip in and out of it over many weeks . I have no regrets purchasing it at all though

Generic advice + dangerous unproved recommendations

Rather generic (reduce distractions), sometimes borderline unrealistic advice (you should barefoot walk on the grass every morning), but I'd survive that. Worse, it's intertwined with recommendations for acupoints tapping, intermittent fasting and essential oils - which is at best questionable, and has nothing to do with author's professional expertise of psychiatry. There is the whole section about "toxins" and "inflammation" and their "connection to ADHD and autism". Text makes no difference between official recommendations and authors' own clinical or personal experiences. Everything is presented in the same matter-of-factly way, with zero critical evaluation.
This is absolutely disheartening to see kind of bold misinformation come from a medical professional.
