A sting in the tale

The is a story well crafted. One that Agatha Cristy would e proud of. The sting is at the end of the tale. Should we say a very unexpected finale. Performance wise I was not so impressed. The narrator attempts many accents but never quite gets then right. The Irish accent was just not right. I found that all a bit distracting and irritating. Despite that I am starting book four in this series this evening.

Well plotted and pacey storyline

The characters are well developed and interesting. The scenes are well set and the movement from scene to scene is swift and varied - tension is well done.

BUT, the extreme accents of the narrator are so distracting - the locals sound like turnip-picking yokels, and the main male lead sounds terribly effete, possibly as a female narrator cannot attain a low enough pitch? Also, the narrator persistently mispronounces words: not just regional variations, but mistakes which shatter the suspension of disbelief. I'm likely to read the rest instead of listening.

Enjoyable story but the narration is dreadful

I am listening to these books in order. I was hoping by now that the narrator might have improved. Not so. The accents are appalling and inconsistent. The pronunciation of common words is so bad that it takes attention away from the story. Surely somebody should edit the narration post-production?
I enjoy the stories and the developing characters and their relationships so I will continue with the series.

Poor narration!!

Excellent storyline, as always, by Joy Ellis, but such poor narration!! I’d love to listen to the rest of the Nikki Galena series, but I have noted they are read by the same narrator and I am not sure I can cope with listening to such bad accents and pronunciation, it really did spoil my enjoyment of listening to this book.

Kept me guessing.

Brilliant! I wanted to get to the end of the novel in order to see who their nemesis was, but, at the same time I did not want the story to end. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Great story

Excellent story. Empathised with characters. Reader was fine with main characters but some character accents poor and detracted from the story.
