About this listen

Book one of the Riftwar Legacy

Continuing on from Feist’s bestselling Riftwar Saga comes a spellbinding adventure. Now in a brilliant new livery.

‘Tons of intrigue and action’ – Publishers Weekly

From the endlessly inventive mind of one of fantasy’s all-time greats, comes a spellbinding new adventure featuring old favourites Jimmy, Locklear and Pug.

It’s nine years on from the aftermath of Sethanon and peace has settled over the land. But news of deadly forces stirring on the horizon, brought by the moredhel Gorath, threatenS danger once more for the Kingdom of the Isles.

Nighthawks are murdering again. Politics becomes a dangerous, cut-throat game. And at the root of it all lies a mysterious group of magicians known only as The Six.

Surrounded on all sides by gangs, criminal masterminds and traitors to the crown, it’s only a matter of time before the Kingdom of the Isles is brought down to its knees …

The story continues.

As usual the main characters work together to rid their world of dark forces.
Peter Joyce is a great narrator.

Cool side story to bridge the great series.

Cool side story to bridge the great series. Pleasant narration. Some of the deaths could have been described better but I am just cherry picking.

What makes Feist’s stories so enjoyable

Feist is a master of characterisation. You grow to love his brusque, ill-humoured, quirky, cowardly, awkward characters who bring tears to your eyes or make you laugh out loud, sometimes within the space of minutes. His plot planning is impeccable and you always feel good at the end of a novel, despite the mayhem, tragedy, or disaster. I am loving the series and intent to finish them all.

Vintage Feist

Although this story could be enjoyed as a stand alone book, I absolutely recommend reading the previous Riftwar Cycle books in order. At a minimum read the Serpent War trilogy. Armed with this prior reading, the relationships between both groups of people and individuals will be really clear.

This book was as enjoyable as all the others. It revolves around a plot of betrayal as the title suggests, but also focusses on the three different 'races' of elves; their reticence towards each other, and history. Both old characters, e.g. Pug, Squire Jimmy, Lochlear and new; Goran the moradell and a young untrained magician have adventures together. There are epic journeys, battles both physically and mentally testing. Some characters I grew to like got killed off. I always want all the goodies to pull through, but Feist never lets you have a good story without paying some emotional currency along the way. I'm purposely not giving detail so as not to spoil the book for others.

It's a good'n!! Just get it!!

Krondor

I loved being back with some of the older characters of earlier books. I look forward to reading more about their adventures.
