About this listen
All five audiobooks in the best-selling Limitless Lands series are now together in one collection!
Colonel James Raytak is about to die.
The 93-year-old combat veteran is living his last days in a nursing home, and his only hope for survival is found inside the virtual world of Limitless Lands.
With every swing of his sword and every command given to his army, Raytak is one step closer to returning to the people he loves. Many foes will stand in his path, and despite a lifetime of military experience and powerful allies, victory is not assured.

Jack's narration is just as good as it was in Mother of Learning, though a friend did say it took a little while to start to enjoy the narration, I did not have that experience. Great work!
Fully fleshed out slice of a game world

The narration starts out a bit rough, but it does improve over the course of the books, so don't let the preview mislead you.
for the price per hour, it's well worth dropping a credit on.
rough start but worth sticking to

First of all the positives, the book did a very good approximation of mixing game mechanics and actual war, that made this interesting to listen to. In addition the players seemed to have strong personalities and their motivations were clear, when they had screen time. Their chemistry was good and their charecter arcs worked.
Onto the bad, the author seemed to want to spoon feed me his military jargon, such as using ‘NCO’ pointlessly when sergeant would do, and I don’t think he needed to explain why the army and the marines didn’t like each other so much. The story basically has two parts, the in game, and out of game, honestly I found myself skipping most of the out of game chapters (I listened to the first three books before realising this), and I honestly wish I’d skipped more. There was also no charecter development of Raytak, he was the same at the beginning as the end, which was a missed opportunity in my opinion. Finally the end felt rushed. There was no goodbye to the limitless lands and a lot of in game threads were unresolved. The end was extremely powerful and I liked it, but I didn’t like that I’d spent 50 hours+ learning to love the undying lands and then seeing it dismissed as an irrelevance after [redacted due to spoilers].
Honestly it was a good read but not a great one imo.
Enjoyable but Flawed
