Brilliantly voiced. A wonderfully engaging story how Maigret with a stubborn determination and a connective police force always gets his man.
What marks this story out are the contrasts between American gangsters and Paris law enforcement.
Maigret is a wonderful policeman, a loyal boss and a natural leader.

Exceptional reading of exceptional crime stories by an exceptional author. Simenon and Armstrong are a heady mix. None of the Maigret novels are ever the same. They're always literally novel.

5-stars always!

If Simenon had a weakness in this writing skills it was with his endings. This one is no exception. I wasn’t going to buy this as I like Paris and not the injection of Humphrey Bogart types into that delightful city. Anyway, it was on offer and as I was running out of the late (and best) Maigrets I decide to give in. The main body of the story, even with the rather clichéd gangsters is very good but the ending was a mess. All the characters, plus others you hadn’t even heard of before created a melee of a mess and so, once again, it was as though Maigret ran out of ideas or got bored and his mind was on the next book. However,, as always, Gareth Armstrong’s narration was a delight. I especially love the female voices as they remind me of the older women I remember in London when I was a boy. You never find those wonderful ladies today, chatting away with all the latest gossip.

A great story until a rather confused ending.
