Kennedy having struggled after losing her husband is finally ready to start slowly coming out of that shell and getting active back in society. Liam having helped her throughout the grieving process, as well as, also grieving himself (he was best friends with Kennedy’s husband) is there as a shoulder for her to lean on. Whilst all this is happening, we see their journey turn romantic.
I loved the storyline in this book. Both characters were endearing as well as complex. I loved how we saw Liam being there for Kennedy both as a platonic friend and then later as a romantic partner. Speaking of which, I loved how we saw them being very close friends at first, and then saw how and why their friendship developed into more. Everything about that journey was believable. This book also dealt with some heavier topics including grief, and I loved how it was handled.
I also felt that the pacing of this book was great. Everything seemed to flow well.
Some of the other side characters were very annoying though; most notably her in-laws and Liam’s father (and the people who shun Liam due to his father’s influence), but I suppose that was the author’s intention. So I guess, mission accomplished in that regard.
I listened to this book via audio and enjoyed every moment. Narrated by Lee Daniels and Tyler Darby, it was very easy to listen and get really into the story. Both narrators did a wonderful job. I really felt the emotions with this one, especially due to some of the harder topics explored within this book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it, especially the audiobook version.
