About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A SUNDAY TIMES BEST SELLER.

THE NEW BOOK FROM MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING PSYCHOLOGIST DR JULIE.

Start the New Year with fresh insights, renewed purpose, and strategies for personal development

"This is the book for us all, for ourselves when we need to find a way through, for our children as they fly the nest, our friends that live out of reach, and for our family when we can't find the words to say."

This is the book for life's twists and turns, when being human starts to get complicated.

A must-have companion to Dr Julie's international bestseller Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?, which taught us the skills to strengthen our future mental health, Open When... is the book to turn to when you find yourself in the eye of the storm.

Within this book are a series of Open When style letters from Dr Julie to help navigate the moments of overwhelm, confusion or self-doubt that we all face when life gets messy. Offering calm, clarity and a laser focus on the best way forward, each personal letter is followed by real-time tools that will help you re-frame the situation and decide on your next move.

Every chapter covers a new scenario; universal problems that each of us will likely face at some point. So, whether you are experiencing stress, pressure to perform, dealing with difficult people, trying to fit in, making big decisions, arguments with your partner, or big emotions that are causing anxiety, Open When... brings the words you need to hear to put you back on the front foot, feeling ready to take on everything life throws your way.

The only book I need in my life right now

This book has come into my life at exactly the right time and I would like to thank you so much for writing it.

Everything that you speak about is so relevant to me, and you have filled me with such hope and confidence for how I want to navigate situations in my life.

Your voice has such a calming and caring effect on me, one that I’ve been missing, and for that I am so grateful.

One of the best books I've read

The words every child should hear to became a better adult. Break childhood or generation trauma so your child don't have to struggle, learn how to treat and love yourself more. With the kind soft voice of Dr.Julie

Invaluable and extremely practical.

"Open when..." is a beautiful and inspiring book full of invaluable and extremely practical advice. Both Dr Julie's voice and advice are kind and brimming with compassion and understanding but firm in warning against becoming and identifying as a victim of whatever situation one is dealing with.

Calm considered good advice that’s easy to put into practice

I really enjoyed Open When
I enjoyed listening to the authors voice which was measured and calm whilst instilling and exploring great issues as to why we can behave the way we do
I found I liked to listen into morning and the topics gave me time to contemplate the discussions

I’ve already recommended it to many friends and family

the information it contained

A very informative and helpful read. I would buy any book of the author's. Interesting and inciteful.

Preachy and directive

Didn’t enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. I felt like the book assumes a lot about individual ideology and takes a fairly ‘western’ perspective to life experiences. Felt overwhelmed reading it 😅

Had high expectations from this but this has been a huge let down

I Had high expectations from this but this has been a huge let down. The only positive I can say is that Dr Julie Smiths voice is calm and soothing, however the book fails to provide answers and resolution.

It’s more Dr Julie Smith just talking about certain situations and then expanding on these topics without actually providing resolution.

I have been a huge fan of Dr Julie Smith & This has been absolutely terrible and money wasted.
