About this listen
A world the gods forgot.
Of all the worlds and life they created, the gods favored their children the most. But with that favor came the fear that their Legacy would one day become too powerful and overthrow them. Devram was created. A realm hidden amongst the stars. The gods gave their Legacy the best of all the worlds, and then they left, a sworn agreement to never return and to never interfere.
A historical event.
Forced to a life of servitude, the Fae are required to provide for the Legacy in more ways than one. Every five years, the eligible Fae are gathered for the Selection and assigned to serve in one of the six Kingdoms. To be chosen as the personal Source for a Kingdom Heir is the greatest honor, and for the first time in a millennia, all six Kingdoms have heirs choosing a Source. But their selections could tip the power balance a little too far.
A chosen that was never meant to be.Tessalyn Asura was as forgotten as the realm. But when she finds herself the personal Source to the Heir of Endings, she winds up serving in the darkest Kingdom of them all. The secrets within the Arius Kingdom are meant to be learned and kept, but this was never the life she wanted. Fighting not only the fate thrust upon her, but the temptation to lose herself to desire, Tessa will do anything to escape her new destiny. Until she starts to realize maybe their world wasn’t as forgotten as they thought, and maybe she’s the reason why.
Rain of Shadows and Endings is book one in The Legacy Series and ends on a cliffhanger. This is new adult dark fantasy romance series and includes elements that may be triggering to some listeners.

It’s original
Enjoyed the storyline and most of the narration, but I’m so confused by the awful British accents the fae have. It doesn’t say anywhere in the book that they’re British so can only assume it was a direction choice. It’s grating and sounds like someone who’s had bad elocution lessons (and the male narrator struggles badly with it) it makes Tessa sound whiny and obnoxious, it really influenced my feelings towards her. (I’m British btw). However I’ve got used to it, (kind of) and looking forward to book two. I love both narrators normal voices.

Talented narrators incredible plot
Loved this book, I was hooked from the beginning. I also bought the physical copy to read along. This book is so well narrated, the voices that these talented readers can do is brilliant! Both Laura and Christian brought the story to life. The plot is fantastic and the detail of the characters facial expressions and internal thoughts also brings them to life, superbly written. It’s real in depth and fascinating world building from the get go. I’m going straight onto the second book!

Drawn out abuse
I want to love the book but it’s a hard listen with barely any reprieve for Tessa, going through so much physical and mental abuse. It’s clear she has power waiting to manifest, but sadly the author is holding this piece of the story back, and instead subjecting Tessa to further abuse. Given that the book is 24hr+ of listening time, I think it was unnecessary. There was not much more to the story than the intensity of her treatment. It got a bit much. I will listen to the second book but maybe not just yet.

The emotional trauma of an Atwood
I don’t usually writing reviews but I feel the need to add a trigger warning to this book. Do not read it if you are feeling in any way not good mental health wise. While the story was engaging and the world interestin, the primary ‘relationship’ is incredibly brutal throughout with very few moments of any levity. Also mirroring other reviews the posh English accent for fae was a little jarring as a Brit myself (with all due respect to the narrators as the other narration was brilliant and I think in most cases these things are cast without prior warning of accents) but you get used to it and doesn’t effect the high impact of emotional scenes.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
I thought that Roehrich’s decision to give us Theons pov was very interesting even if it made it so much worse to be immersed in the world with, to see his justifications because you could clearly see the cycle of abuse play out was crazy. Honestly don’t think I could listen to it again as I constantly found myself crying out for Tessa as she sank in to the abuse and acceptance of the bond. There seems to be some hope reached at the very end of the book although I have come to NOT trust that feeling with this author 😅 props to any book that makes you think about things in a different way.

Great Stories… Nothing For It!
Here we have such feat— “a great story”
I could not stop listening. Unique in many ways except for the Fae part. However, unique. Exciting. Suspenseful. Twist & turns, a few one can see coming & others not so much. Irrespective amazing story The writing here was very exceptional! Third person (my favy) the Narration was everything-Lara Horowitz-is an amazing reader, that’s what got me buying the book…
A Gem!!! 5 stars ⭐️ on all fronts. The English accents were lovely.

annoying but intriguing
I'm interested to find out what happened next. there's a slow burn..the FMC is strong willed, which is good but this does slip into annoying several times throughout the story. if the second book is similar, and there's no character growth, I wouldn't finish the series.
