About this listen
From USA Today best-selling Author Aly Martinez comes an emotional new standalone.
Growing up, Ramsey Stewart branded my soul in ways time could never heal.
At 12, he asked me to be his girlfriend.
At 13, he gave me my first kiss.
By 16, we’d fallen in love, planned a future together, and had our eyes set on the horizon.
Love never fails, right?
But for Ramsey, it did.
Love failed him.
I failed him.
The entire world failed him.
At 17, Ramsey was convicted of killing the boy who assaulted me.
"Move on", he wrote in his first and only letter from prison.
"Start a new life", he urged.
"I don’t love you anymore", he lied.
There was no such thing as giving up on Ramsey. Love may have been our curse, but he was mine - then, now, and forever.
So here I am, 12 long years later, waiting for a man I don't even know to emerge from between the chain link gates.

This is a story of a young love between a ‘broken’ boy and a ‘broken’ girl and how they deal with the ‘curve balls’ that life throws them and finally find an ending that's right for them.
Aly I loved listening to this book - a real winner for me!
I hope others think this way too.
I would definitely recommend this heartfelt story to other readers.
A Stunning Read

The flashbacks, though, were adorable, even when the events weren’t always pleasant. And maybe that’s what makes Thea and Ramsey’s relationship so beautiful–they are crutches to each other, they support each other. They build a bubble around them, and when it explodes, it’s painful. And the present is a big delicate and difficult healing process until Thea and Ramsey reconnect.
It was such a bubble, though, that we barely see them interact with other people. Even Nora, Ramsey’s sister, is more a function than a character. The past is a collection of important moments, the various steps in their relationship–the first meeting, the move from friendship to relationship, etc. Their life outside is barely mentioned. Of course, that means we focus on Thea and Ramsey, and it makes their story more powerful.
The narration is amazing. Both narrators know how to express the depest feelings, and they cause many tiny heartbreaks. But they also offer witty and lively banter. Just know that you’ll need a box of tissues.

I really loved it! The storyline reminded me of the Something in the way series which I adored. Andi excellent as always and Jason Clarke is now officially on my list of favourites.
Would recommend!
Really enjoyed it

I loved the way the story was told during their childhood years; however, once Ramsey was released from prison, the character development fell short for me.
The story emphasises too much on inner monologue over actual conversations, which made the narrative of the book feel one-sided and less engaging for me. Despite this, the emotional depth and chemistry between Thea and Ramsey was compelling.
I realise this could just be my own personal quirk, but I couldn't help but compare "Release" to Claire Kingsley's "Protecting You" and "Fighting For Us," and unfortunately, it didn't quite measure up.
I do plan on reading book 2 Reclaim at some point. Dual narration was great.
