About this listen

July 1816—Kendra Donovan could use a distraction. The FBI agent has been dealing with a serious case of cold feet after impulsively agreeing to marry Alec, the Marquis of Sutcliffe. And if that isn't enough, there is also the tantalizing possibility that maybe, just maybe she could return to her own timeline.

When Reginald Lansing, the Earl of Craymore, is found mortally wounded on the Duke of Aldridge's land, Kendra gets the distraction that she's been looking for. Lansing had been traveling with the Anahita Pink, a priceless pink diamond that can be traced to the lost treasure of King John, and has since vanished. Kendra begins to suspect that there's more to the crime than a robbery.

Certainly, Craymore's life proves to be complicated. He had his sister committed to a madhouse to prevent her from marrying a fortune hunter, and recently he'd been heard arguing with his radical cousin. Anyone who managed to get their hands on the Anahita Pink would benefit.

No one knows better than Kendra that humanity's darker impulses can cause devastating ripples. Kendra realizes that her investigation is a terrifying game of cat and mouse against a ruthless killer, who will stop at nothing to win.

Brilliant as usual.

I discovered this series of six books recently and have immensely enjoyed listening to them one after another on audible. The narrator's portrayal of the characters is wonderful and brings them to life. Hopefully, it's not the end, and there will be another instalment soon.

Fabulous series!

I love this series and can't wait for the next entry in the saga. I am not a particular good writer so I'll leave it at that.

Another wonderful entry

I love these books too!
They are well written with twists and turns and they keep me wanting to listen all day long! The narrator is excellent- her character voices are superb…… I can’t wait for the next one!

This was by far the most rushed story. Too many things being crammed into the plot. And it just did not give me the same 'I want to know more' feeling. I hope there will be a 7th book with time and that Kendra becomes less omnipotent in her ways.

A bit rushed!

Another enjoyable book in this series. The ending felt a little final, so I hope the author will continue and this isn't the end.
It was good to see appearances from many series characters like Rebecca, Muldoon, Sam Kelly, although they weren't used in this book as much as in previous ones.
I know there are some flaws/Americanisms (no one in 19th century England ever asks Kendra what "OK" means, someone thinks they hear a skunk in an English wood - did it escape from a zoo???) But I can overlook those as the overall story is still very enjoyable.

Consistently strong series

I have loved all five of the Kendra Donovan books but this one was fascinating with the focus on the asylum and the Romany people. I felt this was shorter than the others and would have liked a bit more time in their world. I feel like there’s an opportunity here too for two stories, one where kendra stays in the past and one where she goes back to the modern day with Alec. It would be fascinating to read both!! Do hope there is more in this series to come.

One of my favourites of the series

A battle of conscience, what is just, unjust or simply a way of the times.
The author's use of historical references and modern experiences along with her ability to create and maintain mystery and suspense has continued into this next book in the series of criminal mystery and periodic drama.
The imagery and emotion in the author's language and writing style is fantastic enhanced by the Narrator, who brings the words and character's to life, as if you were watching them on a screen.
I can't wait for the next one!

Another great sequel to this time travel saga.
